26 - The Poets (Al-Shu'ara')

Order of Revelation: 47

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Transliteration:

Wama as-alukum AAalayhi min ajrin in ajriya illa AAala rabbi alAAalameena

Word by Word:

And not I ask (of) you for it any payment. Not (is) my payment except from (the) Lord (of) the worlds.

Translations:

And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds.

"No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds.

And I ask of you no wage for it; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.

And I ask of you no reward for it; my reward only with the Lord of the worlds.

And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

أَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ وَلَا تَكُونُوا مِنَ الْمُخْسِرِينَ

Transliteration:

Awfoo alkayla wala takoonoo mina almukhsireena

Word by Word:

Give full measure and (do) not be of those who cause loss.

Translations:

[Always] give full measure, and be not among those who [unjustly] cause loss [to others];

"Give just measure, and cause no loss (to others by fraud).

Give full measure, and be not of those who give less (than the due).

Give full measure and be not of those who diminish.

Give full measure and do not be of those who cause loss.

وَزِنُوا بِالْقِسْطَاسِ الْمُسْتَقِيمِ

Transliteration:

Wazinoo bialqistasi almustaqeemi

Word by Word:

And weigh with a balance, [the] even.

Translations:

and [in all your dealings] weigh with a true balance,

"And weigh with scales true and upright.

And weigh with the true balance.

And weigh with a true balance.

And weigh with an even balance.

وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا النَّاسَ أَشْيَاءَهُمْ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا فِي الْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ

Transliteration:

Wala tabkhasoo alnnasa ashyaahum wala taAAthaw fee al-ardi mufsideena

Word by Word:

And (do) not deprive people (of) their things, and (do) not commit evil in the earth, spreading corruption.

Translations:

and do not deprive people of what is rightfully theirs; and do not act wickedly on earth by spreading corruption,

"And withhold not things justly due to men, nor do evil in the land, working mischief.

Wrong not mankind in their goods, and do not evil, making mischief, in the earth.

And wrong not men of their dues, and act not corruptly in the earth, making mischief.

And do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption.

وَاتَّقُوا الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالْجِبِلَّةَ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration:

Waittaqoo allathee khalaqakum waaljibillata al-awwaleena

Word by Word:

And fear the One Who created you and the generations the former."

Translations:

but be conscious of Him who has created you, just as [He created] those countless generations of old!"

"And fear Him Who created you and (who created) the generations before (you)"

And keep your duty unto Him Who created you and the generations of the men of old.

And keep your duty to Him Who created you and the former generation.

And fear He who created you and the former creation."

قَالُوا إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مِنَ الْمُسَحَّرِينَ

Transliteration:

Qaloo innama anta mina almusahhareena

Word by Word:

They said, "Only you (are) of those bewitched.

Translations:

Said they: Thou art but one of the bewitched,

They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched!

They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched;

They said: Thou art only a deluded person,

They said, "You are only of those affected by magic.
