18 - The Cave (Al-Kahf)

Order of Revelation: 69

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration:

Bismi Allahi alrrahmani alrraheemi

Word by Word:

In (the) name (of) Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Translations:

In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace.

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَنزَلَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ الْكِتَابَ وَلَمْ يَجْعَل لَّهُ عِوَجًا

Transliteration:

Alhamdu lillahi allathee anzala AAala AAabdihi alkitaba walam yajAAal lahu AAiwajan

Word by Word:

All Praise (is) for Allah the One Who (has) revealed to His slave the Book, and not (has) made in it any crookedness.

Translations:

ALL PRAISE is due to God, who has bestowed. this divine writ from on high upon His servant, and has not allowed any deviousness to obscure its meaning:

Praise be to God, Who hath sent to His Servant the Book, and hath allowed therein no Crookedness:

Praise be to Allah Who hath revealed the Scripture unto His slave, and hath not placed therein any crookedness,

Praise be to Allah! Who revealed the Book to His servant, and allowed not therein any crookedness,

[All] praise is [due] to Allah , who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance.

قَيِّمًا لِّيُنذِرَ بَأْسًا شَدِيدًا مِّن لَّدُنْهُ وَيُبَشِّرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ الصَّالِحَاتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا حَسَنًا

Transliteration:

Qayyiman liyunthira ba/san shadeedan min ladunhu wayubashshira almu/mineena allatheena yaAAmaloona alssalihati anna lahum ajran hasanan

Word by Word:

Straight, to warn (of) a punishment severe, from near Him, and give glad tidings (to) the believers, those who do righteous deeds, that for them (is) a good reward.

Translations:

[a divine writ] unerringly straight, meant to warn [the godless] of a severe punishment from Him, and to give unto the believers who do good works the glad tiding that theirs shall be a goodly reward-

(He hath made it) Straight (and Clear) in order that He may warn (the godless) of a terrible Punishment from Him, and that He may give Glad Tidings to the Believers who work righteous deeds, that they shall have a goodly Reward,

(But hath made it) straight, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to bring unto the believers who do good works the news that theirs will be a fair reward,

Rightly directing, to give warning of severe punishment from Him and to give good news to the believers who do good that theirs is a goodly reward,

[He has made it] straight, to warn of severe punishment from Him and to give good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a good reward

مَّاكِثِينَ فِيهِ أَبَدًا

Transliteration:

Makitheena feehi abadan

Word by Word:

(They will) abide in it forever.

Translations:

[a state of bliss] in which they. shall dwell beyond the count of time.

Wherein they shall remain for ever:

Wherein they will abide for ever;

Staying in it for ever;

In which they will remain forever

وَيُنذِرَ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ وَلَدًا

Transliteration:

Wayunthira allatheena qaloo ittakhatha Allahu waladan

Word by Word:

And to warn those who say, "Allah has taken a son."

Translations:

Furthermore, [this divine writ is meant] to warn all those who assert, "God has taken unto Himself a son."

Further, that He may warn those (also) who say, "God hath begotten a son":

And to warn those who say: Allah hath chosen a son,

And to warn those who say: Allah has taken to Himself a son.

And to warn those who say, " Allah has taken a son."

مَّا لَهُم بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ وَلَا لِآبَائِهِمْ كَبُرَتْ كَلِمَةً تَخْرُجُ مِنْ أَفْوَاهِهِمْ إِن يَقُولُونَ إِلَّا كَذِبًا

Transliteration:

Ma lahum bihi min AAilmin wala li-aba-ihim kaburat kalimatan takhruju min afwahihim in yaqooloona illa kathiban

Word by Word:

Not they have about it any knowledge and not their forefathers. Mighty (is) the word (that) comes out of their mouths. Not they say except a lie.

Translations:

No knowledge whatever have they of Him, and neither had their forefathers: dreadful -is this saying that comes out of their mouths, [and] nothing but falsehood do they utter!

No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. It is a grievous thing that issues from their mouths as a saying what they say is nothing but falsehood!

(A thing) whereof they have no knowledge, nor (had) their fathers, Dreadful is the word that cometh out of their mouths. They speak naught but a lie.
