29 - The Spider (Al-'Ankaboot)

Order of Revelation: 85

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration:

Bismi Allahi alrrahmani alrraheemi

Word by Word:

In (the) name (of) Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Translations:

In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace.

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

I, Allah, am the best Knower.

أَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ أَن يُتْرَكُوا أَن يَقُولُوا آمَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ

Transliteration:

Ahasiba alnnasu an yutrakoo an yaqooloo amanna wahum la yuftanoona

Word by Word:

Do think the people that they will be left because they say, "We believe" and they will not be tested?

Translations:

DO MEN THINK that on their [mere] saying, We have attained to faith", they will be left to themselves, and will not be put to a test?

Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, "We believe", and that they will not be tested?

Do men imagine that they will be left (at ease) because they say, We believe, and will not be tested with affliction?

Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, We believe, and will not be tried?

Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried?

وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ الْكَاذِبِينَ

Transliteration:

Walaqad fatanna allatheena min qablihim falayaAAlamanna Allahu allatheena sadaqoo walayaAAlamanna alkathibeena

Word by Word:

And indeed, We tested those who (were) before them. And Allah will surely make evident those who (are) truthful and He will surely make evident the liars.

Translations:

Yea, indeed, We did test those who lived before them; and so, [too, shall be tested the people now living: and] most certainly will God mark out those who prove themselves true, and most certainly will He mark out those who are lying.

We did test those before them, and God will certainly know those who are true from those who are false.

Lo! We tested those who were before you. Thus Allah knoweth those who are sincere, and knoweth those who feign.

And indeed We tried those before them, so Allah will certainly know those who are true and He will know the liars.

But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allah will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars.

أَمْ حَسِبَ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ السَّيِّئَاتِ أَن يَسْبِقُونَا سَاءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ

Transliteration:

Am hasiba allatheena yaAAmaloona alssayyi-ati an yasbiqoona saa ma yahkumoona

Word by Word:

Or think those who do evil deeds that they can outrun Us. Evil is what they judge.

Translations:

Or do they think - they who do evil deeds [while claiming to have attained to faith] - that they can escape Us? Bad, indeed, is their judgment!

Do those who practise evil think that they will get the better of Us? Evil is their judgment!

Or do those who do ill-deeds imagine that they can outstrip Us? Evil (for them) is that which they decide.

Or do they who work evil think that they will escape Us? Evil is it that they judge!

Or do those who do evil deeds think they can outrun Us? Evil is what they judge.

مَن كَانَ يَرْجُو لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ أَجَلَ اللَّهِ لَآتٍ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

Transliteration:

Man kana yarjoo liqaa Allahi fa-inna ajala Allahi laatin wahuwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu

Word by Word:

Whoever [is] hopes (for the) meeting (with) Allah, then indeed, (the) Term (of) Allah (is) surely coming. And He (is) the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.

Translations:

Whoever looks forward [with hope and awe] to meeting God [on Resurrection Day, let him be ready for it]: for, behold, the end set by God [for everyone's life] is bound to come - and He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing!

For those whose hopes are in the meeting with God (in the Hereafter, let them strive); for the term (appointed) by God is surely coming and He hears and knows (all things).

Whoso looketh forward to the meeting with Allah (let him know that) Allah's reckoning is surely nigh, and He is the Hearer, the Knower.

Whoever hopes to meet with Allah, the term of Allah is then surely coming. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

Whoever should hope for the meeting with Allah - indeed, the term decreed by Allah is coming. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
