26 - The Poets (Al-Shu'ara')

Order of Revelation: 47

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

Transliteration:

Faittaqoo Allaha waateeAAooni

Word by Word:

So fear Allah and obey me.

Translations:

be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me!

"So fear God, and obey me.

So keep your duty to Allah and obey me.

So keep your duty to Allah and obey me.

So fear Allah and obey me.

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Transliteration:

Wama as-alukum AAalayhi min ajrin in ajriya illa AAala rabbi alAAalameena

Word by Word:

And not I ask you for it any payment. Not (is) my payment except from (the) Lord (of) the worlds.

Translations:

And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds.

"No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds.

And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.

And I ask of you no reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds.

And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.

أَتُتْرَكُونَ فِي مَا هَاهُنَا آمِنِينَ

Transliteration:

Atutrakoona fee ma hahuna amineena

Word by Word:

Will you be left in what (is) here secure,

Translations:

Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now?

"Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here?-

Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us,

Will you be left secure in what is here,

Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death],

فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

Transliteration:

Fee jannatin waAAuyoonin

Word by Word:

In gardens and springs,

Translations:

amidst [these] gardens and springs

"Gardens and Springs,

In gardens and watersprings.

In gardens and fountains,

Within gardens and springs

وَزُرُوعٍ وَنَخْلٍ طَلْعُهَا هَضِيمٌ

Transliteration:

WazurooAAin wanakhlin talAAuha hadeemun

Word by Word:

And cornfields and date-palms its spadix soft?

Translations:

and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes?

"And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)?

And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees,

And corn-fields and palm-trees having fine flower-spikes?

And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit?

وَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا فَارِهِينَ

Transliteration:

Watanhitoona mina aljibali buyootan fariheena

Word by Word:

And you carve of the mountains, houses skillfully.

Translations:

and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?"

"And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill.

Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful?

And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly.

And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill.
