26 - The Poets (Al-Shu'ara')

Order of Revelation: 47

فَأَتْبَعُوهُم مُّشْرِقِينَ

Transliteration:

FaatbaAAoohum mushriqeena

Word by Word:

So they followed them (at) sunrise.

Translations:

And so [the Egyptians] caught up with them at sunrise;

So they pursued them at sunrise.

And they overtook them at sunrise.

Then they pursued them at sunrise.

So they pursued them at sunrise.

فَلَمَّا تَرَاءَى الْجَمْعَانِ قَالَ أَصْحَابُ مُوسَىٰ إِنَّا لَمُدْرَكُونَ

Transliteration:

Falamma taraa aljamAAani qala as-habu moosa inna lamudrakoona

Word by Word:

Then when saw each other the two hosts, said (the) companions (of) Musa, "Indeed, we (are) surely to be overtaken."

Translations:

and as soon as the two hosts came in sight of one another, the followers of Moses exclaimed: Behold, we shall certainly be overtaken [and defeated]!"

And when the two bodies saw each other, the people of Moses said: "We are sure to be overtaken."

And when the two hosts saw each other, those with Moses said: Lo! we are indeed caught.

So when the two hosts saw each other, the companions of Moses cried out: Surely we are overtaken.

And when the two companies saw one another, the companions of Moses said, "Indeed, we are to be overtaken!"

قَالَ كَلَّا إِنَّ مَعِيَ رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ

Transliteration:

Qala kalla inna maAAiya rabbee sayahdeeni

Word by Word:

He said, "Nay, indeed, with me (is) my Lord, He will guide me."

Translations:

He replied: Nay indeed! My Sustainer is with me, [and] He will guide me!"

(Moses) said: "By no means! my Lord is with me! Soon will He guide me!"

He said: Nay, verily! for lo! my Lord is with me. He will guide me.

He said: By no means; surely my Lord is with me -- He will guide me.

[Moses] said, "No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me."

فَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ أَنِ اضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ الْبَحْرَ فَانفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرْقٍ كَالطَّوْدِ الْعَظِيمِ

Transliteration:

Faawhayna ila moosa ani idrib biAAasaka albahra fainfalaqa fakana kullu firqin kaalttawdi alAAatheemi

Word by Word:

Then We inspired to Musa, [that] "Strike with your staff the sea." So it parted and became each part like the mountain [the] great.

Translations:

Thereupon We inspired Moses thus: Strike the sea with thy staff!"- whereupon it parted, and each part appeared like a mountain vast.

Then We told Moses by inspiration: "Strike the sea with thy rod." So it divided, and each separate part became like the huge, firm mass of a mountain.

Then We inspired Moses, saying: Smite the sea with thy staff. And it parted, and each part was as a mountain vast.

Then We revealed to Moses: March on to the sea with thy staff. So it parted, and each party was like a huge mound.

Then We inspired to Moses, "Strike with your staff the sea," and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain.

وَأَزْلَفْنَا ثَمَّ الْآخَرِينَ

Transliteration:

Waazlafna thamma al-akhareena

Word by Word:

And We brought near there, the others.

Translations:

And We caused the pursuers to draw near unto that place:

And We made the other party approach thither.

Then brought We near the others to that place.

And there We brought near the others.

And We advanced thereto the pursuers.

وَأَنجَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ

Transliteration:

Waanjayna moosa waman maAAahu ajmaAAeena

Word by Word:

And We saved Musa and who (were) with him all.

Translations:

and We saved Moses and all who were with him,

We delivered Moses and all who were with him;

And We saved Moses and those with him, every one;

And We saved Moses and those with him, all.

And We saved Moses and those with him, all together.
