26 - The Poets (Al-Shu'ara')

Order of Revelation: 47

قَالَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكَ بِشَيْءٍ مُّبِينٍ

Transliteration:

Qala awa law ji/tuka bishay-in mubeenin

Word by Word:

He said, "Even if I bring you something manifest?"

Translations:

Said he: Even if I should bring about before thee something that clearly shows the truth?"

(Moses) said: "Even if I showed you something clear (and) convincing?"

He said: Even though I show thee something plain?

He said: Even if I show thee something plain?

[Moses] said, "Even if I brought you proof manifest?"

قَالَ فَأْتِ بِهِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

Transliteration:

Qala fa/ti bihi in kunta mina alssadiqeena

Word by Word:

He said, "Then bring it, if you are of the truthful."

Translations:

[Pharaoh] answered: Produce it, then, if thou art a man of truth!"

(Pharaoh) said: "Show it then, if thou tellest the truth!"

(Pharaoh) said: Produce it then, if thou art of the truthful!

(Pharaoh) said: Show it, then, if thou art of the truthful.

[Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful."

فَأَلْقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ ثُعْبَانٌ مُّبِينٌ

Transliteration:

Faalqa AAasahu fa-itha hiya thuAAbanun mubeenun

Word by Word:

So he threw his staff and behold! It (was) a serpent, manifest.

Translations:

Thereupon [Moses] threw down his staff - and lo! it was a serpent, plainly visible;

So (Moses) threw his rod, and behold, it was a serpent, plain (for all to see)!

Then he flung down his staff and it became a serpent manifest,

So he cast down his rod, and lo! it was an obvious serpent;

So [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest.

وَنَزَعَ يَدَهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ بَيْضَاءُ لِلنَّاظِرِينَ

Transliteration:

WanazaAAa yadahu fa-itha hiya baydao lilnnathireena

Word by Word:

And he drew out his hand and behold! It (was) white for the observers.

Translations:

and he drew forth his hand - and lo! it appeared [shining] white to the beholders.

And he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to all beholders!

And he drew forth his hand and lo! it was white to the beholders.

And he drew forth his hand, and lo! it appeared white to the beholders.

And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white for the observers.

قَالَ لِلْمَلَإِ حَوْلَهُ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَسَاحِرٌ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration:

Qala lilmala-i hawlahu inna hatha lasahirun AAaleemun

Word by Word:

He said to the chiefs around him, "Indeed, this (is) surely a magician learned.

Translations:

Said [pharaoh] unto the great ones around him: Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge

(Pharaoh) said to the Chiefs around him: "This is indeed a sorcerer well- versed:

(Pharaoh) said unto the chiefs about him: Lo! this is verily a knowing wizard,

(Pharaoh) said to the chiefs around him: Surely this is a skilful enchanter,

[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician.

يُرِيدُ أَن يُخْرِجَكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُم بِسِحْرِهِ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ

Transliteration:

Yureedu an yukhrijakum min ardikum bisihrihi famatha ta/muroona

Word by Word:

He wants to drive you out from your land by his magic, so what (do) you advise?"

Translations:

who wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery. What, then, do you advise?"

"His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel?"

Who would drive you out of your land by his magic. Now what counsel ye?

Who desires to turn you out of your land with his enchantment. What is it then that you counsel?

He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?"
