19 - Mary (Maryam)

Order of Revelation: 44

وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ وَمَا تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ وَأَدْعُو رَبِّي عَسَىٰ أَلَّا أَكُونَ بِدُعَاءِ رَبِّي شَقِيًّا

Transliteration:

WaaAAtazilukum wama tadAAoona min dooni Allahi waadAAoo rabbee AAasa alla akoona biduAAa-i rabbee shaqiyyan

Word by Word:

And I will leave you and what you invoke besides Allah and I will invoke my Lord. May be that not I will be in invocation (to) my Lord unblessed."

Translations:

But I shall withdraw from you all and from whatever you invoke instead of God, and shall invoke my Sustainer [alone]: it may well be that my prayer [for thee] will not remain unanswered by my Sustainer."

"And I will turn away from you (all) and from those whom ye invoke besides God: I will call on my Lord: perhaps, by my prayer to my Lord, I shall be not unblest."

I shall withdraw from you and that unto which ye pray beside Allah, and I shall pray unto my Lord. It may be that, in prayer unto my Lord, I shall not be unblest.

And I withdraw from you and that which you call on beside Allah, and I call upon my Lord. Maybe I shall not remain unblessed in calling upon my Lord.

And I will leave you and those you invoke other than Allah and will invoke my Lord. I expect that I will not be in invocation to my Lord unhappy."

فَلَمَّا اعْتَزَلَهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ وَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَكُلًّا جَعَلْنَا نَبِيًّا

Transliteration:

Falamma iAAtazalahum wama yaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi wahabna lahu ishaqa wayaAAqooba wakullan jaAAalna nabiyyan

Word by Word:

So when he left them and what they worshipped besides Allah, [and] We bestowed [to] him Ishaq and Yaqub, and each (of them) We made a Prophet.

Translations:

And after he had withdrawn from them and from all that they were worshipping instead of God, We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob, and made each of them a prophet;

When he had turned away from them and from those whom they worshipped besides God, We bestowed on him Isaac and Jacob, and each one of them We made a prophet.

So, when he had withdrawn from them and that which they were worshipping beside Allah, We gave him Isaac and Jacob. Each of them We made a prophet.

So, when he withdrew from them and that which they worshipped besides Allah, We gave him Isaac and Jacob. And each (of them) We made a prophet.

So when he had left them and those they worshipped other than Allah , We gave him Isaac and Jacob, and each [of them] We made a prophet.

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُم مِّن رَّحْمَتِنَا وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ عَلِيًّا

Transliteration:

Wawahabna lahum min rahmatina wajaAAalna lahum lisana sidqin AAaliyyan

Word by Word:

And We bestowed to them of Our Mercy, and We made for them a truthful mention, high.

Translations:

and We bestowed upon them [manifold] gifts out of Our grace, and granted them a lofty power to convey the truth [unto others].

And We bestowed of Our Mercy on them, and We granted them lofty honour on the tongue of truth.

And we gave them of Our mercy, and assigned to them a high and true renown.

And We gave them of Our mercy, and We granted them a truthful mention of eminence.

And We gave them of Our mercy, and we made for them a reputation of high honor.

وَاذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ مُوسَىٰ إِنَّهُ كَانَ مُخْلَصًا وَكَانَ رَسُولًا نَّبِيًّا

Transliteration:

Waothkur fee alkitabi moosa innahu kana mukhlasan wakana rasoolan nabiyyan

Word by Word:

And mention in the Book, Musa. Indeed, he was chosen and was a Messenger, a Prophet.

Translations:

AND CALL to mind, through this divine writ, Moses. Behold, he was a chosen one, and was an apostle [of God], a prophet.

Also mention in the Book (the story of) Moses: for he was specially chosen, and he was an apostle (and) a prophet.

And make mention in the Scripture of Moses. Lo! he was chosen, and he was a messenger (of Allah), a prophet.

وَنَادَيْنَاهُ مِن جَانِبِ الطُّورِ الْأَيْمَنِ وَقَرَّبْنَاهُ نَجِيًّا

Transliteration:

Wanadaynahu min janibi alttoori al-aymani waqarrabnahu najiyyan

Word by Word:

And We called him from (the) side (of) the Mount the right, and brought him near (for) conversation.

Translations:

And [remember how] We called upon him from the right-hand slope of Mount Sinai and drew him near [unto Us] in mystic communion,

And we called him from the right side of Mount (Sinai), and made him draw near to Us, for mystic (converse).

We called him from the right slope of the Mount, and brought him nigh in communion.

And We called to him from the blessed side of the mountain, and We made him draw nigh in communion.

And We called him from the side of the mount at [his] right and brought him near, confiding [to him].

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ مِن رَّحْمَتِنَا أَخَاهُ هَارُونَ نَبِيًّا

Transliteration:

Wawahabna lahu min rahmatina akhahu haroona nabiyyan

Word by Word:

And We bestowed [to] him from Our Mercy his brother Harun, a Prophet.

Translations:

and [how], out of Our grace, We granted unto him his brother Aaron, to be a prophet [by his side].

And, out of Our Mercy, We gave him his brother Aaron, (also) a prophet.

And We bestowed upon him of Our mercy his brother Aaron, a prophet (likewise).

And We gave him out of Our mercy his brother Aaron, a prophet.

And We gave him out of Our mercy his brother Aaron as a prophet.
