21 - The Prophets (Al-Anbya')

Order of Revelation: 73

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ فَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِ مِن ضُرٍّ وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَهْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْعَابِدِينَ

Transliteration:

Faistajabna lahu fakashafna ma bihi min durrin waataynahu ahlahu wamithlahum maAAahum rahmatan min AAindina wathikra lilAAabideena

Word by Word:

So We responded to him and We removed what (was) on him of (the) adversity. And We gave him his family and (the) like thereof with them (as) Mercy from Ourselves, and a reminder for the worshippers.

Translations:

whereupon We responded unto him and removed all the affliction from which he suffered; and We gave him new offspring, doubling their number as an act of grace from Us, and as a reminder unto all who worship Us.

So We listened to him: We removed the distress that was on him, and We restored his people to him, and doubled their number,- as a Grace from Ourselves, and a thing for commemoration, for all who serve Us.

Then We heard his prayer and removed that adversity from which he suffered, and We gave him his household (that he had lost) and the like thereof along with them, a mercy from Our store, and a remembrance for the worshippers;

So We responded to him and removed the distress he had, and We gave him his people and the like of them with them: a mercy from Us and a reminder to the worshippers.

So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him [back] his family and the like thereof with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for the worshippers [of Allah ].

وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِدْرِيسَ وَذَا الْكِفْلِ كُلٌّ مِّنَ الصَّابِرِينَ

Transliteration:

Wa-ismaAAeela wa-idreesa watha alkifli kullun mina alssabireena

Word by Word:

And Ismail and Idris and Dhul-Kifl; all (were) of the patient ones.

Translations:

AND [remember] Ishmael and Idris and every one who [like them] has pledged himself [unto God]: they all were among those who are patient in adversity,

And (remember) Isma'il, Idris, and Zul-kifl, all (men) of constancy and patience;

And (mention) Ishmael, and Idris, and Dhu'l-Kifl. All were of the steadfast.

And Ishmael and Idris and Dhu-l-Kifl; all were of the patient ones;

And [mention] Ishmael and Idrees and Dhul-Kifl; all were of the patient.

وَأَدْخَلْنَاهُمْ فِي رَحْمَتِنَا إِنَّهُم مِّنَ الصَّالِحِينَ

Transliteration:

Waadkhalnahum fee rahmatina innahum mina alssaliheena

Word by Word:

And We admitted them in Our Mercy. Indeed, they (were) of the righteous.

Translations:

and so We admitted them unto Our grace: behold, they were among the righteous!

We admitted them to Our mercy: for they were of the righteous ones.

And We brought them in unto Our mercy. Lo! they are among the righteous.

And We admitted them to Our mercy; surely they were of the good ones.

And We admitted them into Our mercy. Indeed, they were of the righteous.

وَذَا النُّونِ إِذ ذَّهَبَ مُغَاضِبًا فَظَنَّ أَن لَّن نَّقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَنَادَىٰ فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ أَن لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

Transliteration:

Watha alnnooni ith thahaba mughadiban fathanna an lan naqdira AAalayhi fanada fee alththulumati an la ilaha illa anta subhanaka innee kuntu mina alththalimeena

Word by Word:

And Dhun-Nun when he went (while) angry and thought that never We would decree upon him. Then he called in the darkness(es) that, "(There is) no god except You, Glory be to You! Indeed, [I] I am of the wrongdoers."

Translations:

AND [remember] him of the great fish when he went off in wrath, thinking that We had no power over him!* But then heeded out in the deep darkness [of his distress]: There is no deity save Thee! Limitless art Thou in Thy glory! Verily, I have done wrong!"*

And remember Zun-nun, when he departed in wrath: He imagined that We had no power over him! But he cried through the deptHs of darkness, "There is no god but thou: glory to thee: I was indeed wrong!"

And (mention) Dhu'n-Nun, when he went off in anger and deemed that We had no power over him, but he cried out in the darkness, saying: There is no Allah save Thee. Be Thou Glorified! Lo! I have been a wrong-doer.

And Dhu-l-Nun, when he went away in wrath, and he thought that We would not straiten him, so he called out among afflictions: There is no God but Thou, glory be to Thee! Surely I am of the sufferers of loss.

And [mention] the man of the fish, when he went off in anger and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him. And he called out within the darknesses, "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers."

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْغَمِّ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُنجِي الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration:

Faistajabna lahu wanajjaynahu mina alghammi wakathalika nunjee almu/mineena

Word by Word:

So We responded to him, and We saved him from the distress. And thus We save the believers.

Translations:

And so We responded unto him and delivered him from [his] distress: for thus do We deliver all who have faith.

So We listened to him: and delivered him from distress: and thus do We deliver those who have faith.

Then we heard his prayer and saved him from the anguish. Thus we save believers.

So We responded to him and delivered him from grief. And thus do We deliver the believers.

So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus do We save the believers.

وَزَكَرِيَّا إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ

Transliteration:

Wazakariyya ith nada rabbahu rabbi la tatharnee fardan waanta khayru alwaritheena

Word by Word:

And Zakariya, when he called (to) his Lord, "My Lord! (Do) not leave me alone, while You (are) [the] Best (of) the inheritors."

Translations:

AND [thus did We deliver] Zachariah when he cried out unto his Sustainer: O my Sustainer! Leave me not childless! But [even if Thou grant me no bodily heir, I know that] Thou wilt remain when all else has ceased to be!"

And (remember) Zakariya, when he cried to his Lord: "O my Lord! leave me not without offspring, though thou art the best of inheritors."

And Zachariah, when he cried unto his Lord: My Lord! Leave me not childless, though Thou art the Best of inheritors.

And Zacharias, when he cried to his Lord: My Lord leave me not alone! and Thou art the Best of inheritors.

And [mention] Zechariah, when he called to his Lord, "My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of inheritors."
