3 - The Amramites (Ali-'Imran)

Order of Revelation: 89

وَمَكَرُوا وَمَكَرَ اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ خَيْرُ الْمَاكِرِينَ

Transliteration:

Wamakaroo wamakara Allahu waAllahu khayru almakireena

Word by Word:

And they schemed, and Allah planned. And Allah (is the) best (of) the planners.

Translations:

And the unbelievers schemed [against Jesus]; but God brought their scheming to nought: for God is above all schemers.

And (the unbelievers) plotted and planned, and God too planned, and the best of planners is God.

And they (the disbelievers) schemed, and Allah schemed (against them): and Allah is the best of schemers.

And (the Jews) planned and Allah (also) planned. And Allah is the best of planners.

And the disbelievers planned, but Allah planned. And Allah is the best of planners.

إِذْ قَالَ اللَّهُ يَا عِيسَىٰ إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيكَ وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَيَّ وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَجَاعِلُ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوكَ فَوْقَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ثُمَّ إِلَيَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ فِيمَا كُنتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ

Transliteration:

Ith qala Allahu ya AAeesa innee mutawaffeeka warafiAAuka ilayya wamutahhiruka mina allatheena kafaroo wajaAAilu allatheena ittabaAAooka fawqa allatheena kafaroo ila yawmi alqiyamati thumma ilayya marjiAAukum faahkumu baynakum feema kuntum feehi takhtalifoona

When Allah said "O Isa! Indeed, I (will) take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve[d], and I will make those who follow[ed] you superior (to) those who disbelieve[d] on (the) Day (of) [the] Resurrection. Then to Me (is) your return and I will judge between you about what you were [in it] differing.

Translations:

Lo! God said: "O Jesus! Verily, I shall cause thee to die, and shall exalt thee unto Me, and cleanse thee of [the presence of] those who are bent on denying the truth; and I shall place those who follow thee [far] above those who are bent on denying the truth, unto the Day of Resurrection. In the end, unto Me you all must return, and I shall judge between you with regard to all on which you were wont to differ.

Behold! God said: "O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject faith, to the Day of Resurrection: Then shall ye all return unto me, and I will judge between you of the matters wherein ye dispute.

(And remember) when Allah said: O Jesus! Lo! I am gathering thee and causing thee to ascend unto Me, and am cleansing thee of those who disbelieve and am setting those who follow thee above those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then unto Me ye will (all) return, and I shall judge between you as to that wherein ye used to differ.

When Allah said: O Jesus, I will cause thee to die and exalt thee in My presence and clear thee of those who disbelieve and make those who follow thee above those who disbelieve to the day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, so I shall decide between you concerning that wherein you differ.

[Mention] when Allah said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allah alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ.

فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فَأُعَذِّبُهُمْ عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّاصِرِينَ

Transliteration:

Faamma allatheena kafaroo faoAAaththibuhum AAathaban shadeedan fee alddunya waal-akhirati wama lahum min nasireena

Word by Word:

Then as for those who disbelieve[d], then I will punish them (with) a punishment severe in the world and (in) the Hereafter. And not for them any helpers.

Translations:

"And as for those who are bent on denying the truth, I shall cause them to suffer a suffering severe in this world and in the life to come, and they shall have none to succour them;

"As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help."

As for those who disbelieve I shall chastise them with a heavy chastisement in the world and the Hereafter; and they will have no helpers.

Then as to those who disbelieve, I shall chastise them with severe chastisement in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers.

And as for those who disbelieved, I will punish them with a severe punishment in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers."

وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ فَيُوَفِّيهِمْ أُجُورَهُمْ وَاللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ الظَّالِمِينَ

Transliteration:

Waamma allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati fayuwaffeehim ojoorahum waAllahu la yuhibbu alththalimeena

Word by Word:

And as for those who believe[d] and did [the] righteous deeds then He will grant them in full their reward. And Allah (does) not love the wrongdoers.

Translations:

whereas unto those who attain to faith and do good works He will grant their reward in full: for God does not love evildoers."

"As to those who believe and work righteousness, God will pay them (in full) their reward; but God loveth not those who do wrong."

And as for those who believe and do good works, He will pay them their wages in full. Allah loveth not wrong-doers.

And as to those who believe and do good deeds, He will pay them fully their rewards. And Allah loves not the unjust.

But as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, He will give them in full their rewards, and Allah does not like the wrongdoers.

ذَٰلِكَ نَتْلُوهُ عَلَيْكَ مِنَ الْآيَاتِ وَالذِّكْرِ الْحَكِيمِ

Transliteration:

Thalika natloohu AAalayka mina al-ayati waalththikri alhakeemi

Word by Word:

That (is what) We recite [it] to you of the Verses and the Reminder - [the] Wise.

Translations:

THIS MESSAGE do We convey unto thee, and this tiding full of wisdom:

"This is what we rehearse unto thee of the Signs and the Message of Wisdom."

This (which) We recite unto thee is a revelation and a wise reminder.

This We recite to thee of the messages and the Reminder full of wisdom.

This is what We recite to you, [O Muhammad], of [Our] verses and the precise [and wise] message.

إِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيسَىٰ عِندَ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ آدَمَ خَلَقَهُ مِن تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ

Transliteration:

Inna mathala AAeesa AAinda Allahi kamathali adama khalaqahu min turabin thumma qala lahu kun fayakoonu

Word by Word:

Indeed, (the) likeness (of) Isa near Allah (is) like (the) likeness (of) Adam. He created him from dust then He said to him, "Be," and he was.

Translations:

Verily, in the sight of God, the nature of Jesus is as the nature of Adam, whom He created out of dust and then said unto him, "Be" - and he is.

The similitude of Jesus before God is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: "Be". And he was.

Lo! the likeness of Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He created him of dust, then He said unto him: Be! and he is.

The likeness of Jesus with Allah is truly as the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust, then said to him, Be, and he was.

Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.
