23 - The Believers (Al-Mu'minun)

Order of Revelation: 74

ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ السَّيِّئَةَ نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَصِفُونَ

Transliteration:

IdfaAA biallatee hiya ahsanu alssayyi-ata nahnu aAAlamu bima yasifoona

Word by Word:

Repel by that which (is) best - the evil. We know best of what they attribute.

Translations:

[But whatever they may say or do,] repel the evil [which they commit] with something that is better: We are fully aware of what they attribute [to Us].

Repel evil with that which is best: We are well acquainted with the things they say.

Repel evil with that which is better. We are Best Aware of that which they allege.

Repel evil with that which is best. We know best what they describe.

Repel, by [means of] what is best, [their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe.

وَقُل رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ

Transliteration:

Waqul rabbi aAAoothu bika min hamazati alshshayateeni

Word by Word:

And say, "My Lord! I seek refuge in You from (the) suggestions (of) the evil ones,

Translations:

And say: O my Sustainer! I seek refuge with Thee from the promptings of all evil impulses;

And say "O my Lord! I seek refuge with Thee from the suggestions of the Evil Ones.

And say: My Lord! I seek refuge in Thee from suggestions of the evil ones,

And say: My Lord, I seek refuge in Thee from the evil suggestions of the devils,

And say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils,

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن يَحْضُرُونِ

Transliteration:

WaaAAoothu bika rabbi an yahdurooni

Word by Word:

And I seek refuge in You, My Lord! Lest they be present with me."

Translations:

and I seek refuge with Thee, O my Sustainer, lest they come near unto me!'

"And I seek refuge with Thee O my Lord! lest they should come near me."

And I seek refuge in Thee, my Lord, lest they be present with me,

And I seek refuge in Thee, my Lord, lest they come to me.

And I seek refuge in You, my Lord , lest they be present with me."

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدَهُمُ الْمَوْتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ارْجِعُونِ

Transliteration:

Hatta itha jaa ahadahumu almawtu qala rabbi irjiAAooni

Word by Word:

Until when comes (to) one of them the death he says, "My Lord! Send me back

Translations:

[AS FOR THOSE who will not believe in the life to come, they go on lying to themselves] until, when death approaches any of them, he prays: O my Sustainer! Let me return, let me return [to life],

(In Falsehood will they be) Until, when death comes to one of them, he says: "O my Lord! send me back (to life),-

Until, when death cometh unto one of them, he saith: My Lord! Send me back,

Until when death overtakes one of them, he says: My Lord, send me back,

[For such is the state of the disbelievers], until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back

لَعَلِّي أَعْمَلُ صَالِحًا فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ كَلَّا إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَائِلُهَا وَمِن وَرَائِهِم بَرْزَخٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ

Transliteration:

LaAAallee aAAmalu salihan feema taraktu kalla innaha kalimatun huwa qa-iluha wamin wara-ihim barzakhun ila yawmi yubAAathoona

Word by Word:

That I may do righteous (deeds) in what I left behind." No! Indeed, it (is) a word he speaks it, and before them (is) a barrier till (the) Day they are resurrected.

Translations:

so that I might act righteously in whatever I have failed [aforetime]!'' Nay, it is indeed but a [meaningless] word that he utters: for behind those [who leave the world] there is a barrier [of death] until the Day when all will be raised from the dead!

"In order that I may work righteousness in the things I neglected." - "By no means! It is but a word he says."- Before them is a Partition till the Day they are raised up.

That I may do right in that which I have left behind! But nay! It is but a word that he speaketh; and behind them is a barrier until the day when they are raised.

That I may do good in that which I have left. By no means! It is but a word that he speaks. And before them is a barrier, until the day they are raised.

That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind." No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَلَا أَنسَابَ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَلَا يَتَسَاءَلُونَ

Transliteration:

Fa-itha nufikha fee alssoori fala ansaba baynahum yawma-ithin wala yatasaaloona

Word by Word:

So when is blown in the trumpet then not (there) will be relationship among them that Day, and not will they ask each other.

Translations:

Then, when the trumpet [of resurrection] is blown, no ties of kinship will on that Day prevail among them, and neither will they ask about one another.

Then when the Trumpet is blown, there will be no more relationships between them that Day, nor will one ask after another!

And when the trumpet is blown there will be no kinship among them that day, nor will they ask of one another.

So when the trumpet is blown, there will be no ties of relationship among them that day, nor will they ask of one another.

So when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another.
