23 - The Believers (Al-Mu'minun)

Order of Revelation: 74

Transliteration:

Bal ataynahum bialhaqqi wa-innahum lakathiboona

Word by Word:

Nay, We (have) brought them the truth, but indeed, they surely, (are) liars.

Translations:

Nay, We have conveyed unto them the truth: and yet, behold, they are intent on lying [to themselves]!

We have sent them the Truth: but they indeed practise falsehood!

Nay, but We have brought them the Truth, and lo! they are liars.

Nay, We have brought them the Truth and surely they are liars.

Rather, We have brought them the truth, and indeed they are liars.

Transliteration:

Ma ittakhatha Allahu min waladin wama kana maAAahu min ilahin ithan lathahaba kullu ilahin bima khalaqa walaAAala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin subhana Allahi AAamma yasifoona

Word by Word:

Not Allah has taken any son, and not is with Him any god. Then surely (would have) taken away each god what he created, and surely would have overpowered, some of them [on] others. Glory be (to) Allah above what they attribute!

Translations:

Never did God take unto Himself any offspring, nor has there ever been any deity side by side with Him: [for, had there been any,] lo! each deity would surely have stood apart [from the others] in whatever it had created, and they would surely have [tried to] overcome one another! Limitless in His glory is God, [far] above anything that men may devise by way of definition,

No son did God beget, nor is there any god along with Him: (if there were many gods), behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have lorded it over others! Glory to God! (He is free) from the (sort of) things t hey attribute to Him!

Allah hath not chosen any son, nor is there any god along with Him; else would each god have assuredly championed that which he created, and some of them would assuredly have overcome others. Glorified be Allah above all that they allege.

Allah has not taken to Himself a son, nor is there with Him any (other) god -- in that case would each god have taken away what he created, and some of them would have overpowered others. Glory be to Allah above they describe --

Allah has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have sought to overcome others. Exalted is Allah above what they describe [concerning Him].

AAalimi alghaybi waalshshahadati fataAAala AAamma yushrikoona

Word by Word:

Knower (of) the unseen and the witnessed, exalted is He above what they associate.

Translations:

knowing all that is beyond the reach of a created being's perception as well as all that can be witnessed by a creature's senses or mind and, hence, sublimely exalted is He above anything to which they may ascribe a share in His divinity!

He knows what is hidden and what is open: too high is He for the partners they attribute to Him!

Knower of the Invisible and the Visible! and Exalted be He over all that they ascribe as partners (unto Him)!

The Knower of the unseen and the seen; so may He be exalted above what they associated (with Him)!

[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so high is He above what they associate [with Him].

Say: My Lord! If Thou shouldst show me that which they are promised.

Say: My Lord, if Thou show me that which they are promised --

Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised,

My Lord! then set me not among the wrongdoing folk.

My Lord, then place me not with the unjust people.

My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
