25 - The Statute Book (Al-Furqan)

Order of Revelation: 42

فَقُلْنَا اذْهَبَا إِلَى الْقَوْمِ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا فَدَمَّرْنَاهُمْ تَدْمِيرًا

Transliteration:

Faqulna ithhaba ila alqawmi allatheena kaththaboo bi-ayatina fadammarnahum tadmeeran

Word by Word:

Then We said, "Go both of you to the people, those who have denied, Our Signs." Then We destroyed them (with) destruction.

Translations:

and We said, Go you both unto the people who have given the lie to Our messages!" - and thereupon We broke those [sinners] to smithereens.

And We command: "Go ye both, to the people who have rejected our Signs:" And those (people) We destroyed with utter destruction.

Then We said: Go together unto the folk who have denied Our revelations. Then We destroyed them, a complete destruction.

Then We said: Go you both to the people who reject Our messages. So We destroyed them with utter destruction.

And We said, "Go both of you to the people who have denied Our signs." Then We destroyed them with [complete] destruction.

وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ لَّمَّا كَذَّبُوا الرُّسُلَ أَغْرَقْنَاهُمْ وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ لِلنَّاسِ آيَةً وَأَعْتَدْنَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

Transliteration:

Waqawma noohin lamma kaththaboo alrrusula aghraqnahum wajaAAalnahum lilnnasi ayatan waaAAtadna lilththalimeena AAathaban aleeman

Word by Word:

And (the) people (of) Nuh, when they denied the Messengers, We drowned them and We made them for mankind a sign. And We have prepared for the wrongdoers. a punishment painful.

Translations:

And [think of] the people of Noah: when they gave the lie to [one of] the apostles, We caused them to drown, and made them a symbol for all mankind: for, grievous suffering have We readied for all who [knowingly] do wrong!

And the people of Noah,- when they rejected the apostles, We drowned them, and We made them as a Sign for mankind; and We have prepared for (all) wrong-doers a grievous Penalty;-

And Noah's folk, when they denied the messengers, We drowned them and made of them a portent for mankind. We have prepared a painful doom for evil-doers.

And the people of Noah, when they rejected the messengers, We drowned them, and made them a sign for men. And We have prepared a painful chastisement for the wrongdoers --

And the people of Noah - when they denied the messengers, We drowned them, and We made them for mankind a sign. And We have prepared for the wrongdoers a painful punishment.

وَعَادًا وَثَمُودَ وَأَصْحَابَ الرَّسِّ وَقُرُونًا بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ كَثِيرًا

Transliteration:

WaAAadan wathamooda waas-haba alrrassi waquroonan bayna thalika katheeran

Word by Word:

And Ad and Thamud and (the) dwellers (of) and generations between that many.

Translations:

And [remember how We punished the tribes of] Ad and Thamud and the people of Ar-Rass,* and many generations [of sinners] in-between:

As also 'Ad and Thamud, and the Companions of the Rass, and many a generation between them.

And (the tribes of) A'ad and Thamud, and the dwellers in Ar-Rass, and many generations in between.

And 'Ad and Thamud and the dwellers of Rass and many generations in between.

And [We destroyed] 'Aad and Thamud and the companions of the well and many generations between them.

وَكُلًّا ضَرَبْنَا لَهُ الْأَمْثَالَ وَكُلًّا تَبَّرْنَا تَتْبِيرًا

Transliteration:

Wakullan darabna lahu al-amthala wakullan tabbarna tatbeeran

Word by Word:

And each We have set forth for him the examples, and each We destroyed (with) destruction.

Translations:

and unto each of them did We proffer lessons* and each of them did We destroy with utter destruction.

To each one We set forth Parables and examples; and each one We broke to utter annihilation (for their sins).

Each (of them) We warned by examples, and each (of them) We brought to utter ruin.

And to each We gave examples and each did We destroy with utter destruction.

And for each We presented examples [as warnings], and each We destroyed with [total] destruction.

وَلَقَدْ أَتَوْا عَلَى الْقَرْيَةِ الَّتِي أُمْطِرَتْ مَطَرَ السَّوْءِ أَفَلَمْ يَكُونُوا يَرَوْنَهَا بَلْ كَانُوا لَا يَرْجُونَ نُشُورًا

Transliteration:

Walaqad ataw AAala alqaryati allatee omtirat matara alssaw-i afalam yakoonoo yarawnaha bal kanoo la yarjoona nushooran

Word by Word:

And verily, they have come upon the town which was showered (with) a rain (of) evil. Then do not they [were] see it? Nay, they are not expecting Resurrection.

Translations:

And they [who now deny Our messages] must surely have come across that town which was rained upon by a rain of evil: have they, then, never beheld it [with their minds eye]? But nay, they would not believe in resurrection!

And the (Unbelievers) must indeed have passed by the town on which was rained a shower of evil: did they not then see it (with their own eyes)? But they fear not the Resurrection.

And indeed they have passed by the township whereon was rained the fatal rain. Can it be that they have not seen it? Nay, but they hope for no resurrection.

And indeed they pass by the town wherein was rained an evil rain. Do they not see it? Nay, they hope not to be raised again.

And they have already come upon the town which was showered with a rain of evil. So have they not seen it? But they are not expecting resurrection.

وَإِذَا رَأَوْكَ إِن يَتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلَّا هُزُوًا أَهَٰذَا الَّذِي بَعَثَ اللَّهُ رَسُولًا

Transliteration:

Wa-itha raawka in yattakhithoonaka illa huzuwan ahatha allathee baAAatha Allahu rasoolan

Word by Word:

And when they see you, not they take you except (in) mockery, "Is this the one whom Allah has sent (as) a Messenger?

Translations:

Hence, whenever they consider thee, [O Muhammad,] they but make thee a target of their mockery, [saying:] Is this the one whom God has sent as an apostle?

When they see thee, they treat thee no otherwise than in mockery: "Is this the one whom God has sent as an apostle?"

And when they see thee (O Muhammad) they treat thee only as a jest (saying): Is this he whom Allah sendeth as a messenger?

And when they see thee, they take thee for naught but a jest: Is this he whom Allah has raised to be a messenger?

And when they see you, [O Muhammad], they take you not except in ridicule, [saying], "Is this the one whom Allah has sent as a messenger?
