25 - The Statute Book (Al-Furqan)

Order of Revelation: 42

أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَيْرٌ مُّسْتَقَرًّا وَأَحْسَنُ مَقِيلًا

Transliteration:

As-habu aljannati yawma-ithin khayrun mustaqarran waahsanu maqeelan

Word by Word:

(The) companions (of) Paradise, that Day, (will be in) a better abode, and a better resting-place.

Translations:

[whereas] on that same Day those who are destined for paradise will be graced with the best of abodes and the fairest place of repose.

The Companions of the Garden will be well, that Day, in their abode, and have the fairest of places for repose.

Those who have earned the Garden on that day will be better in their home and happier in their place of noonday rest;

The owners of the Garden will on that day be in a better abiding-place and a fairer resting-place.

The companions of Paradise, that Day, are [in] a better settlement and better resting place.

وَيَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ السَّمَاءُ بِالْغَمَامِ وَنُزِّلَ الْمَلَائِكَةُ تَنزِيلًا

Transliteration:

Wayawma tashaqqaqu alssamao bialghamami wanuzzila almala-ikatu tanzeelan

Word by Word:

And (the) Day will split open the heavens with the clouds and (will be) sent down the Angels, descending.

Translations:

And on the Day on which the skies, together with the clouds, shall burst asunder, and the angels are made to descend in a mighty descent

The Day the heaven shall be rent asunder with clouds, and angels shall be sent down, descending (in ranks),-

A day when the heaven with the clouds will be rent asunder and the angels will be sent down, a grand descent.

And on the day when the heaven burst asunder with clouds, and the angels are sent down, as they are sent.

And [mention] the Day when the heaven will split open with [emerging] clouds, and the angels will be sent down in successive descent.

الْمُلْكُ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْحَقُّ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ وَكَانَ يَوْمًا عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ عَسِيرًا

Transliteration:

Almulku yawma-ithin alhaqqu lilrrahmani wakana yawman AAala alkafireena AAaseeran

Word by Word:

The Sovereignty, that Day (will be) truly, for the Most Gracious. And (it will) be a Day for the disbelievers difficult.

Translations:

on that Day [it will become obvious to all that] true sovereignty belongs to the Most Gracious [alone]: hence, a Day of distress will it be for all who deny the truth,

That Day, the dominion as of right and truth, shall be (wholly) for (God) Most Merciful: it will be a Day of dire difficulty for the Misbelievers.

The Sovereignty on that day will be the True (Sovereignty) belonging to the Beneficent One, and it will be a hard day for disbelievers.

The kingdom on that day rightly belongs to the Beneficent, and it will be a hard day for the disbelievers.

True sovereignty, that Day, is for the Most Merciful. And it will be upon the disbelievers a difficult Day.

وَيَوْمَ يَعَضُّ الظَّالِمُ عَلَىٰ يَدَيْهِ يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي اتَّخَذْتُ مَعَ الرَّسُولِ سَبِيلًا

Transliteration:

Wayawma yaAAaddu alththalimu AAala yadayhi yaqoolu ya laytanee ittakhathtu maAAa alrrasooli sabeelan

Word by Word:

And (the) Day will bite the wrongdoer [on] his hands, he will say, "O I wish! I had taken with the Messenger a way.

Translations:

and a Day on which the evildoer will bite his hands [in despair], exclaiming: Oh, would that I had followed the path shown to me by the apostle!

The Day that the wrong-doer will bite at his hands, he will say, "Oh! would that I had taken a (straight) path with the Apostle!

On the day when the wrong-doer gnaweth his hands, he will say: Ah, would that I had chosen a way together with the messenger (of Allah)!

And on the day when the wrongdoer will bite his hands, saying: Would that I had taken a way with the Messenger!

And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret] he will say, "Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a way.

يَا وَيْلَتَىٰ لَيْتَنِي لَمْ أَتَّخِذْ فُلَانًا خَلِيلًا

Transliteration:

Ya waylata laytanee lam attakhith fulanan khaleelan

Word by Word:

O woe to me! I wish not I had taken that one (as) a friend.

Translations:

Oh, woe is me! Would that I had not taken so-and-so for a friend!

"Ah! woe is me! Would that I had never taken such a one for a friend!

Alas for me! Ah, would that I had never taken such an one for friend!

O woe is me! would that I had not taken such a one for a friend!

Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that one as a friend.

لَّقَدْ أَضَلَّنِي عَنِ الذِّكْرِ بَعْدَ إِذْ جَاءَنِي وَكَانَ الشَّيْطَانُ لِلْإِنسَانِ خَذُولًا

Transliteration:

Laqad adallanee AAani alththikri baAAda ith jaanee wakana alshshaytanu lil-insani khathoolan

Word by Word:

Verily, he led me astray from the Reminder after [when] it (had) come to me. And is the Shaitaan to the man a deserter."

Translations:

Indeed, he led me astray from the remembrance [of God] after it had come unto me!" For [thus it is:] Satan is ever a betrayer of man.*

"He did lead me astray from the Message (of God) after it had come to me! Ah! the Evil One is but a traitor to man!" Then the Apostle will say:

He verily led me astray from the Reminder after it had reached me. Satan was ever man's deserter in the hour of need.

Certainly he led me astray from the Reminder after it had come to me. And the devil ever deserts man.

He led me away from the remembrance after it had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a deserter."
