23 - The Believers (Al-Mu'minun)

Order of Revelation: 74

هَيْهَاتَ هَيْهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ

Transliteration:

Hayhata hayhata lima tooAAadoona

Word by Word:

Far-(fetched), far-(fetched) is what you are promised!

Translations:

Far-fetched, far-fetched indeed is what you are promised!

"Far, very far is that which ye are promised!

Begone, begone, with that which ye are promised!

Far, very far, is that which you are promised:

How far, how far, is that which you are promised.

إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا الدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَبْعُوثِينَ

Transliteration:

In hiya illa hayatuna alddunya namootu wanahya wama nahnu bimabAAootheena

Word by Word:

Not it (is) but our life (of) the world, we die and we live, and not we (will be) resurrected.

Translations:

There is no life beyond our life in this world: we die and we live [but once], and we shall never be raised from the dead!

"There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again!

There is naught but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we shall not be raised (again).

There is naught but our life in this world: we die and we live and we shall not be raised again:

Life is not but our worldly life - we die and live, but we will not be resurrected.

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ افْتَرَىٰ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا وَمَا نَحْنُ لَهُ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration:

In huwa illa rajulun iftara AAala Allahi kathiban wama nahnu lahu bimu/mineena

Word by Word:

Not (is) he but a man who (has) invented about Allah a lie, and not we (in) him (are) believers."

Translations:

He is nothing but a man who attributes his own lying inventions to God, and we are not going to believe him!"

"He is only a man who invents a lie against God, but we are not the ones to believe in him!"

He is only a man who hath invented a lie about Allah. We are not going to put faith in him.

He is naught but a man who has forged a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe in him.

He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah , and we will not believe him."

قَالَ رَبِّ انصُرْنِي بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ

Transliteration:

Qala rabbi onsurnee bima kaththabooni

Word by Word:

He said, "My Lord! Help me because they deny me."

Translations:

[Whereupon the prophet] would say: O my Sustainer! Succour me against their accusation of lying!"

(The prophet) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood."

He said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me.

He said: My Lord, help me against their calling me a liar.

He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."

قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِيلٍ لَّيُصْبِحُنَّ نَادِمِينَ

Transliteration:

Qala AAamma qaleelin layusbihunna nadimeena

Word by Word:

He said, "After a little while surely they will become regretful."

Translations:

[And God] would say: After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!''

(God) said: "In but a little while, they are sure to be sorry!"

He said: In a little while they surely will become repentant.

He said: In a little while they will certainly be repenting.

[ Allah ] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful."

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ بِالْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ غُثَاءً فَبُعْدًا لِّلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ

Transliteration:

Faakhathat-humu alssayhatu bialhaqqi fajaAAalnahum ghuthaan fabuAAdan lilqawmi alththalimeena

Word by Word:

So seized them the awful cry in truth, and We made them (as) rubbish of dead leaves. So away with the people - the wrongdoers.

Translations:

And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk!

Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong!

So the (Awful) Cry overtook them rightfully, and We made them like as wreckage (that a torrent hurleth). A far removal for wrongdoing folk!

So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people!

So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.
