27 - The Ant (Al-Naml)

Order of Revelation: 48

وَجَدتُّهَا وَقَوْمَهَا يَسْجُدُونَ لِلشَّمْسِ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ فَصَدَّهُمْ عَنِ السَّبِيلِ فَهُمْ لَا يَهْتَدُونَ

Transliteration:

Wajadtuha waqawmaha yasjudoona lilshshamsi min dooni Allahi wazayyana lahumu alshshaytanu aAAmalahum fasaddahum AAani alssabeeli fahum la yahtadoona

Word by Word:

And I found her and her people prostrating to the sun instead of Allah, and has made fair-seeming to them the Shaitaan their deeds, and averted them from the Way, so they (are) not guided,

Translations:

And I found her and her people adoring the sun instead of God; and Satan has made these doings of theirs seem goodly to them, and [thus] has barred them from the path [of God], so that they cannot find the right way:

"I found her and her people worshipping the sun besides God: Satan has made their deeds seem pleasing in their eyes, and has kept them away from the Path,- so they receive no guidance,-

I found her and her people worshipping the sun instead of Allah; and Satan maketh their works fairseeming unto them, and debarreth them from the way (of Truth), so that they go not aright;

I found her and her people adoring the sun instead of Allah, and the devil has made their deeds fair-seeming to them and turned them from the way, so they go not aright --

I found her and her people prostrating to the sun instead of Allah , and Satan has made their deeds pleasing to them and averted them from [His] way, so they are not guided,

أَلَّا يَسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ الَّذِي يُخْرِجُ الْخَبْءَ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تُخْفُونَ وَمَا تُعْلِنُونَ

Transliteration:

Alla yasjudoo lillahi allathee yukhriju alkhabaa fee alssamawati waal-ardi wayaAAlamu ma tukhfoona wama tuAAlinoona

Word by Word:

That not they prostrate to Allah, the One Who brings forth the hidden in the heavens and the earth and knows what you conceal and what you declare,

Translations:

[for they have come to believe] that they ought not to adore God [although it is He] who brings forth all that is hidden in the heavens and on earth, and knows all that you would conceal as well as all that you bring into the open:

"(Kept them away from the Path), that they should not worship God, Who brings to light what is hidden in the heavens and the earth, and knows what ye hide and what ye reveal.

So that they worship not Allah, Who bringeth forth the hidden in the heavens and the earth, and knoweth what ye hide and what ye proclaim,

So that they worship not Allah, Who brings forth what is hidden in the heavens and the earth and knows what you hide and what you proclaim.

[And] so they do not prostrate to Allah , who brings forth what is hidden within the heavens and the earth and knows what you conceal and what you declare -

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ

Transliteration:

Allahu la ilaha illa huwa rabbu alAAarshi alAAatheemi

Word by Word:

Allah (there is) no god but He, (the) Lord (of) the Throne the Great."

Translations:

God, save whom there is no deity - the Sustainer, in awesome almightiness enthroned!"

"God!- there is no god but He!- Lord of the Throne Supreme!"

Allah; there is no Allah save Him, the Lord of the Tremendous Throne.

Allah, there is no God but He, the Lord of the mighty Throne.

Allah - there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Great Throne."

قَالَ سَنَنظُرُ أَصَدَقْتَ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ

Transliteration:

Qala sananthuru asadaqta am kunta mina alkathibeena

Word by Word:

He said, "We will see whether you speak (the) truth or you are of the liars.

Translations:

Said [Solomon]: We shall see whether thou hast told the truth or art one of the liars!

(Solomon) said: "Soon shall we see whether thou hast told the truth or lied!

(Solomon) said: We shall see whether thou speakest truth or whether thou art of the liars.

He said: We shall see whether thou speakest the truth or whether thou art a liar.

[Solomon] said, "We will see whether you were truthful or were of the liars.

اذْهَب بِّكِتَابِي هَٰذَا فَأَلْقِهْ إِلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ تَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَانظُرْ مَاذَا يَرْجِعُونَ

Transliteration:

Ithhab bikitabee hatha faalqih ilayhim thumma tawalla AAanhum faonthur matha yarjiAAoona

Word by Word:

Go with my letter, this, and deliver it to them. Then turn away from them and see what they return."

Translations:

Go with this my letter and convey it to them; and thereafter withdraw from them and see what [answer] they return."

"Go thou, with this letter of mine, and deliver it to them: then draw back from them, and (wait to) see what answer they return"...

Go with this my letter and throw it down unto them; then turn away and see what (answer) they return,

Take this my letter and hand it over to them, then turn from them and see what (answer) they return.

Take this letter of mine and deliver it to them. Then leave them and see what [answer] they will return."

قَالَتْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْمَلَأُ إِنِّي أُلْقِيَ إِلَيَّ كِتَابٌ كَرِيمٌ

Transliteration:

Qalat ya ayyuha almalao innee olqiya ilayya kitabun kareemun

Word by Word:

She said, "O chiefs! Indeed [I], is delivered to me a letter noble.

Translations:

[When the Queen had read Solomon's letter,] she said: O you nobles! A truly distinguished letter has been conveyed unto me.

(The queen) said: "Ye chiefs! here is delivered to me - a letter worthy of respect.

(The Queen of Sheba) said (when she received the letter): O chieftains! Lo! there hath been thrown unto me a noble letter.

She said: O chiefs, an honourable letter has been delivered to me.

She said, "O eminent ones, indeed, to me has been delivered a noble letter.
