27 - The Ant (Al-Naml)

Order of Revelation: 48

وَإِنَّكَ لَتُلَقَّى الْقُرْآنَ مِن لَّدُنْ حَكِيمٍ عَلِيمٍ

Transliteration:

Wa-innaka latulaqqa alqur-ana min ladun hakeemin AAaleemin

Word by Word:

And indeed, you surely, receive the Quran from [near] the All-Wise, the All-Knower.

Translations:

But [as for thee, O believer,] verily, thou hast received this Qur'an out of the grace of One who is wise, all-knowing.

As to thee, the Qur'an is bestowed upon thee from the presence of one who is wise and all-knowing.

Lo! as for thee (Muhammad), thou verily receivest the Qur'an from the presence of One Wise, Aware.

And thou art surely made to receive the Qur'an from the Wise, the Knowing.

And indeed, [O Muhammad], you receive the Qur'an from one Wise and Knowing.

إِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِأَهْلِهِ إِنِّي آنَسْتُ نَارًا سَآتِيكُم مِّنْهَا بِخَبَرٍ أَوْ آتِيكُم بِشِهَابٍ قَبَسٍ لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَصْطَلُونَ

Transliteration:

Ith qala moosa li-ahlihi innee anastu naran saateekum minha bikhabarin aw ateekum bishihabin qabasin laAAallakum tastaloona

Word by Word:

When said Musa to his family, "Indeed, I perceive a fire. I will bring you from it some information or I will bring you a torch burning so that you may warm yourselves."

Translations:

Lo! [While lost in the desert,] Moses said to his family: Behold, I perceive a fire [far away]; I may bring you from there some tiding [as to which way we arc to pursue], or bring you [at least] a burning brand so that you might warm yourselves."

Behold! Moses said to his family: "I perceive a fire; soon will I bring you from there some information, or I will bring you a burning brand to light our fuel, that ye may warn yourselves.

(Remember) when Moses said unto his household: Lo! I spy afar off a fire; I will bring you tidings thence, or bring to you a borrowed flame that ye may warm yourselves.

When Moses said to his family: Surely I see a fire; I will bring you news thence, or bring you therefrom a burning brand, so that you may warm yourselves.

[Mention] when Moses said to his family, "Indeed, I have perceived a fire. I will bring you from there information or will bring you a burning torch that you may warm yourselves."

فَلَمَّا جَاءَهَا نُودِيَ أَن بُورِكَ مَن فِي النَّارِ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهَا وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Transliteration:

Falamma jaaha noodiya an boorika man fee alnnari waman hawlaha wasubhana Allahi rabbi alAAalameena

Word by Word:

But when he came to it, he was called [that] "Blessed is who (is) at the fire and whoever (is) around it. And glory be (to) Allah (the) Lord (of) the worlds.

Translations:

But when he came close to it, a call was sounded: Blessed are all who are within [reach of] this fire, and all who are near it! And limitless in His glory is God, the Sustainer of all the worlds!"

But when he came to the (fire), a voice was heard: "Blessed are those in the fire and those around: and glory to God, the Lord of the worlds.

But when he reached it, he was called, saying: Blessed is Whosoever is in the fire and Whosoever is round about it! And Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!

So when he came to it, a voice issued, saying: Blessed is he who is in search of fire and those around it. And glory be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds!

But when he came to it, he was called, "Blessed is whoever is at the fire and whoever is around it. And exalted is Allah , Lord of the worlds.

يَا مُوسَىٰ إِنَّهُ أَنَا اللَّهُ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ

Transliteration:

Ya moosa innahu ana Allahu alAAazeezu alhakeemu

Word by Word:

O Musa! Indeed, I Am Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise."

Translations:

[And God spoke thus:] O Moses! Verily I alone am God, the Almighty, the Wise!"

"O Moses! verily, I am God, the exalted in might, the wise!....

O Moses! Lo! it is I, Allah, the Mighty, the Wise.

O Moses, surely I am Allah, the Mighty, the Wise:

O Moses, indeed it is I - Allah , the Exalted in Might, the Wise."

وَأَلْقِ عَصَاكَ فَلَمَّا رَآهَا تَهْتَزُّ كَأَنَّهَا جَانٌّ وَلَّىٰ مُدْبِرًا وَلَمْ يُعَقِّبْ يَا مُوسَىٰ لَا تَخَفْ إِنِّي لَا يَخَافُ لَدَيَّ الْمُرْسَلُونَ

Transliteration:

Waalqi AAasaka falamma raaha tahtazzu kaannaha jannun walla mudbiran walam yuAAaqqib ya moosa la takhaf innee la yakhafu ladayya almursaloona

Word by Word:

And, "Throw your staff." But when he saw it moving as if it (were) a snake he turned back (in) flight and (did) not look back. "O Musa! (Do) not fear. Indeed, [I] (do) not fear (in) My presence the Messengers.

Translations:

[And then He said:] Now throw down thy staff!" But when he saw it move rapidly, as if it were a serpent, he drew back [in terror], and did not [dare to] return. [And God spoke to him again:] O Moses! Fear not - for, behold, no fear need the message-bearers have in My Presence,

"Now do thou throw thy rod!" But when he saw it moving (of its own accord)as if it had been a snake, he turned back in retreat, and retraced not his steps: "O Moses!" (it was said), "Fear not: truly, in My presence, those called as apostles ha ve no fear,-

And throw down thy staff! But when he saw it writhing as it were a demon, he turned to flee headlong; (but it was said unto him): O Moses! Fear not! the emissaries fear not in My presence,

And cast down thy rod. So when he saw it in motion as if it were a serpent, he turned back retreating and did not return. O Moses, fear not. Surely the messengers fear not in My presence --

And [he was told], "Throw down your staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it were a snake, he turned in flight and did not return. [ Allah said], "O Moses, fear not. Indeed, in My presence the messengers do not fear.

إِلَّا مَن ظَلَمَ ثُمَّ بَدَّلَ حُسْنًا بَعْدَ سُوءٍ فَإِنِّي غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Transliteration:

Illa man thalama thumma baddala husnan baAAda soo-in fa-innee ghafoorun raheemun

Word by Word:

Except who wrongs then substitutes good after evil, then indeed, I Am Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Translations:

and neither need anyone who has done wrong and then has replaced the wrong with good: for, verily, I am much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace!

"But if any have done wrong and have thereafter substituted good to take the place of evil, truly, I am Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Save him who hath done wrong and afterward hath changed evil for good. And lo! I am Forgiving, Merciful.

Nor he who does wrong, then does good instead after evil; surely I am Forgiving, Merciful,

Otherwise, he who wrongs, then substitutes good after evil - indeed, I am Forgiving and Merciful.
