54 - The Moon (Al-Qamar)

Order of Revelation: 37

Transliteration:

Walaqad antharahum batshatana fatamaraw bialnnuthuri

Word by Word:

And certainly he warned them (of) Our seizure, but they disputed the warnings.

Translations:

For he had truly warned them of Our punishing might; but they stubbornly cast doubt on these warnings,

And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning.

And he indeed had warned them of Our blow, but they did doubt the warnings.

Surely We sent upon them a stone-storm, except Lot's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak --

And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning.

Transliteration:

Walaqad rawadoohu AAan dayfihi fatamasna aAAyunahum fathooqoo AAathabee wanuthuri

Word by Word:

And certainly they demanded from him his guests, so We blinded their eyes. "So taste My punishment and My warnings."

Translations:

and even demanded that he give up his guests [to them]: whereupon We deprived them of their sight [and thus told them, as it were]: Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!"

And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) "Now taste ye My Wrath and My Warning."

They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings!

A favour from Us. Thus do We reward him who gives thanks.

And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning."

Transliteration:

Walaqad sabbahahum bukratan AAathabun mustaqirrun

Word by Word:

And certainly seized them in the morning early a punishment abiding.

Translations:

And, indeed, abiding suffering did befall them early on the morrow:

Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them:

And in truth the punishment decreed befell them early in the morning.

And certainly he warned them of Our violent seizure, but they disputed the warning.

And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment.

Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!"

"So taste ye My Wrath and My Warning."

Now taste My punishment after My warnings!

And certainly they endeavoured to turn him from his guests, but We blinded their eyes; so taste My chastisement and My warning.

So taste My punishment and warning.

Transliteration:

Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana lilththikri fahal min muddakirin

And certainly We have made easy the Quran for remembrance, so is (there) any who will receive admonition?

Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart?

And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?

And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth?

And certainly a lasting chastisement overtook them in the morning.

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

To the People of Pharaoh, too, aforetime, came Warners (from God).
