44 - Smoke (Al-Dukhan)
Order of Revelation: 64ثُمَّ صُبُّوا فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْحَمِيمِ
Thumma subboo fawqa ra/sihi min AAathabi alhameemi
Then pour over his head of (the) punishment (of) the scalding water.
then pour over his head the anguish of burning despair!
"Then pour over his head the Penalty of Boiling Water,
Then pour upon his head the torment of boiling water.
Then pour on his head of the torment of boiling water --
Then pour over his head from the torment of scalding water."
ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْكَرِيمُ
Thuq innaka anta alAAazeezu alkareemu
Taste! Indeed, you [you] (were) the mighty, the noble.
Taste it - thou who [on earth] hast considered thyself so mighty, so noble!
"Taste thou (this)! Truly wast thou mighty, full of honour!
(Saying): Taste! Lo! thou wast forsooth the mighty, the noble!
Taste -- thou art forsooth the mighty, the honourable!
[It will be said], "Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble!
إِنَّ هَٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِ تَمْتَرُونَ
Inna hatha ma kuntum bihi tamtaroona
Indeed, this (is) what you used to [about it] doubt."
This is the very thing which you [deniers of the truth] were wont to call in question!"
"Truly this is what ye used to doubt!"
Lo! this is that whereof ye used to doubt.
Surely this is what you doubted.
Indeed, this is what you used to dispute."
إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ
Inna almuttaqeena fee maqamin ameenin
Indeed, the righteous (will be) in a place secure,
[As against this -] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves in a state secure,
As to the Righteous (they will be) in a position of Security,
Lo! those who kept their duty will be in a place secured.
Those who keep their duty are indeed in a secure place --
Indeed, the righteous will be in a secure place;
فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
Fee jannatin waAAuyoonin
In gardens and springs,
amid gardens and springs,
Among Gardens and Springs;
Amid gardens and watersprings,
In gardens and springs,
Within gardens and springs,
يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ
Yalbasoona min sundusin wa-istabraqin mutaqabileena
Wearing garments of fine silk and heavy silk, facing each other.
wearing [garments] of silk and brocade, facing one another [in love].*
Dressed in fine silk and in rich brocade, they will face each other;
Attired in silk and silk embroidery, facing one another.
Wearing fine and thick silk, facing one another --
Wearing [garments of] fine silk and brocade, facing each other.
