30 - The Romans (Al-Room)

Order of Revelation: 84

Transliteration:

Allahu allathee yursilu alrriyaha fatutheeru sahaban fayabsutuhu fee alssama-i kayfa yashao wayajAAaluhu kisafan fatara alwadqa yakhruju min khilalihi fa-itha asaba bihi man yashao min AAibadihi itha hum yastabshiroona

Word by Word:

Allah (is) the One Who sends the winds, so they raise (the) clouds, then He spreads them in the sky, how He wills, and He makes them fragments so you see the rain coming forth from their midst. Then when He causes it to fall on whom He wills of His slaves, behold! They rejoice.

Translations:

It is God who sends forth the winds [of hope],* so that they raise a cloud - whereupon He spreads it over the skies as He wills, and causes it to break up so that thou seest rain issue from within it: and as soon as He causes it to fall upon whomever He wills of His servants - lo! they rejoice,

It is God Who sends the Winds, and they raise the Clouds: then does He spread them in the sky as He wills, and break them into fragments, until thou seest rain-drops issue from the midst thereof: then when He has made them reach such of his se rvants as He wills behold, they do rejoice!-

Allah is He Who sendeth the winds so that they raise clouds, and spreadeth them along the sky as pleaseth Him, and causeth them to break and thou seest the rain downpouring from within them. And when He maketh it to fall on whom He will of His bondmen, lo! they rejoice;

Allah is He Who sends forth the winds, so they raise a cloud, then He spreads it forth in the sky as He pleases, and He breaks it, so that you see the rain coming forth from inside it; then when He causes it to fall upon whom He pleases of His servants, lo! they rejoice --

It is Allah who sends the winds, and they stir the clouds and spread them in the sky however He wills, and He makes them fragments so you see the rain emerge from within them. And when He causes it to fall upon whom He wills of His servants, immediately they rejoice

Transliteration:

Wa-in kanoo min qabli an yunazzala AAalayhim min qablihi lamubliseena

Word by Word:

And certainly they were, before [that] it was sent down upon them, [before it], surely in despair.

Translations:

even though a short while ago, [just] before it was sent down upon them, they had abandoned all hope!

Even though, before they received (the rain) - just before this - they were dumb with despair!

Though before that, even before it was sent down upon them, they were in despair.

Though they were before this, before it was sent down upon them, in sure despair.

Although they were, before it was sent down upon them - before that, in despair.

Transliteration:

Faonthur ila athari rahmati Allahi kayfa yuhyee al-arda baAAda mawtiha inna thalika lamuhyee almawta wahuwa AAala kulli shay-in qadeerun

Word by Word:

So look at (the) effects (of the) Mercy (of) Allah, how He gives life (to) the earth after its death. Indeed, that surely He (will) give life (to) the dead. And He (is) on every thing All-Powerful.

Translations:

Behold, then, [O man,] these signs of God's grace - how He gives life to the earth after it had been lifeless! Verily, this Selfsame [God] is indeed the One that can bring the dead back to life: for He has the power to will anything!

Then contemplate (O man!) the memorials of God's Mercy!- how He gives life to the earth after its death: verily the same will give life to the men who are dead: for He has power over all things.

Look, therefore, at the prints of Allah's mercy (in creation): how He quickeneth the earth after her death. Lo! He verily is the Quickener of the Dead, and He is Able to do all things.

Look then at the signs of Allah's mercy, how He gives life to the earth after its death. Surely He is the Quickener of the dead; and He is Possessor of power over all things.

So observe the effects of the mercy of Allah - how He gives life to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed, that [same one] will give life to the dead, and He is over all things competent.

Transliteration:

Wala-in arsalna reehan faraawhu musfarran lathalloo min baAAdihi yakfuroona

Word by Word:

But if We sent a wind and they see it turn yellow, certainly they continue after it (in) disbelief.

Translations:

But thus it is: if We send a wind [that scorches their land], and they see it turn yellow, they begin, after that [erstwhile joy], to deny the truth [of Our almightiness and grace]!

And if We (but) send a Wind from which they see (their tilth) turn yellow,- behold, they become, thereafter, Ungrateful (Unbelievers)!

And if We sent a wind and they beheld it yellow, they verily would still continue in their disbelief.

And if We send a wind and they see it yellow, they would after that certainly continue to disbelieve.

But if We should send a [bad] wind and they saw [their crops] turned yellow, they would remain thereafter disbelievers.

Transliteration:

Fa-innaka la tusmiAAu almawta wala tusmiAAu alssumma aldduAAaa itha wallaw mudbireena

Word by Word:

So indeed, you (can) not make the dead hear and not make the deaf hear the call when they turn, retreating.

Translations:

And, verily, thou canst not make the dead hear: and [so, too,] thou canst not make the deaf [of heart] hear this call when they turn their backs [on thee] and go away,

So verily thou canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call, when they show their backs and turn away.

For verily thou (Muhammad) canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call when they have turned to flee.

So surely thou canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call, when they turn back retreating.

So indeed, you will not make the dead hear, nor will you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs, retreating.

Transliteration:

Word by Word:

And not you can guide the blind from their error. Not you can make hear except (those) who believe in Our Verses so they surrender.

Translations:

just as thou canst not lead the blind [of heart] out of their error: none canst thou make hear [thy call] save such as [are willing to] believe in Our messages, and thus surrender themselves unto Us.

Nor canst thou lead back the blind from their straying: only those wilt thou make to hear, who believe in Our signs and submit (their wills in Islam).

Nor canst thou guide the blind out of their error. Thou canst make none to hear save those who believe in Our revelations so that they surrender (unto Him).

Nor canst thou guide the blind out of their error. Thou canst make none to hear but those who believe in Our messages, so they submit.

And you cannot guide the blind away from their error. You will only make hear those who believe in Our verses so they are Muslims [in submission to Allah ].
