56 - The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)

Order of Revelation: 46

إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ

Transliteration:

Inna lamughramoona

Word by Word:

"Indeed, we surely are laden with debt,

Translations:

Verily, we are ruined!

(Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing):

Lo! we are laden with debt!

Surely we are burdened with debt:

[Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt;

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ

Transliteration:

Bal nahnu mahroomoona

Word by Word:

Nay, we (are) deprived."

Translations:

Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!"

"Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)"

Nay, but we are deprived!

Nay, we are deprived.

Rather, we have been deprived."

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ الْمَاءَ الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ

Transliteration:

Afaraaytumu almaa allathee tashraboona

Do you see the water, which you drink?

Translations:

Have you ever considered the water which you drink?

See ye the water which ye drink?

Have ye observed the water which ye drink?

See you the water which you drink?

And have you seen the water that you drink?

أَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنزِلُونَ

Transliteration:

Aantum anzaltumoohu mina almuzni am nahnu almunziloona

Is it you who send it down from the rain clouds, or We (are) the Ones to send?

Translations:

Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down?

Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We?

Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder?

Do you bring it down from the clouds, or are We the Bringer?

Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down?

لَوْ نَشَاءُ جَعَلْنَاهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ

Transliteration:

Law nashao jaAAalnahu ojajan falawla tashkuroona

Word by Word:

If We willed, We (could) make it salty, then why are you not grateful?

Translations:

[It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]?

Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks?

If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks?

If We pleased, We could make it saltish; why give you not thanks?

If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِي تُورُونَ

Transliteration:

Afaraaytumu alnnara allatee tooroona

Do you see the Fire, which you ignite?

Translations:

Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle?

See ye the Fire which ye kindle?

Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out;

See you the fire which you kindle?

And have you seen the fire that you ignite?
