55 - Most Gracious (Al-Rahmaan)

Order of Revelation: 97

وَلَهُ الْجَوَارِ الْمُنشَآتُ فِي الْبَحْرِ كَالْأَعْلَامِ

Transliteration:

Walahu aljawari almunshaatu fee albahri kaal-aAAlami

Word by Word:

And for Him (are) the ships elevated in the sea like mountains.

Translations:

And His are the lofty ships that sail like [floating] mountains through the seas.

And His are the Ships sailing smoothly through the seas, lofty as mountains:

His are the ships displayed upon the sea, like banners.

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

And to Him belong the ships [with sails] elevated in the sea like mountains.

فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Transliteration:

Fabi-ayyi ala-i rabbikuma tukaththibani

Word by Word:

So which (of the) favors (of) your Lord will you both deny?

Translations:

Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow?

Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?

And His are the ships reared aloft in the sea like mountains.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

كُلُّ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا فَانٍ

Transliteration:

Kullu man AAalayha fanin

Word by Word:

Everyone who (is) on it (will) perish.

Translations:

All that lives on earth or in the heavens is bound to pass away:

All that is on earth will perish:

Everyone that is thereon will pass away;

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

Everyone upon the earth will perish,

وَيَبْقَىٰ وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ

Transliteration:

Wayabqa wajhu rabbika thoo aljalali waal-ikrami

Word by Word:

But will remain (the) Face (of) your Lord, (the) Owner (of) Majesty and Honor.

Translations:

but forever will abide thy Sustainer's Self, full of majesty and glory.

But will abide (for ever) the Face of thy Lord,- full of Majesty, Bounty and Honour.

There remaineth but the Countenance of thy Lord of Might and Glory.

Every one on it passes away

And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.

فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Fabi-ayyi ala-i rabbikuma tukaththibani

Word by Word:

So which (of the) favors (of) your Lord will you both deny?

Translations:

Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow?

Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?

And there endures for ever the person of thy Lord, the Lord of glory and honour.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

يَسْأَلُهُ مَن فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ هُوَ فِي شَأْنٍ

Transliteration:

Yas-aluhu man fee alssamawati waal-ardi kulla yawmin huwa fee sha/nin

Word by Word:

Asks Him whoever (is) in the heavens and the earth. Every day He (is) in a matter.

Translations:

On Him depends all creatures in the heavens and on earth; [and] every day He manifests Himself in yet another [wondrous] way.

Of Him seeks (its need) every creature in the heavens and on earth: every day in (new) Splendour doth He (shine)!

All that are in the heavens and the earth entreat Him. Every day He exerciseth (universal) power.

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

Whoever is within the heavens and earth asks Him; every day He is bringing about a matter.
