33 - The Parties (Al-Ahzab)

Order of Revelation: 90

يَوْمَ تُقَلَّبُ وُجُوهُهُمْ فِي النَّارِ يَقُولُونَ يَا لَيْتَنَا أَطَعْنَا اللَّهَ وَأَطَعْنَا الرَّسُولَا

Transliteration:

Yawma tuqallabu wujoohuhum fee alnnari yaqooloona ya laytana ataAAna Allaha waataAAna alrrasoola

Word by Word:

(The) Day will be turned about their faces in the Fire they will say, "O we wish we (had) obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger!"

Translations:

On the Day when their faces shall be tossed about in the fire, they will exclaim, Oh, would that we had paid heed unto God, and paid heed unto the Apostle!"

The Day that their faces will be turned upside down in the Fire, they will say: "Woe to us! Would that we had obeyed God and obeyed the Apostle!"

On the day when their faces are turned over in the Fire, they say: Oh, would that we had obeyed Allah and had obeyed His messenger!

On the day when their leaders are turned back into the Fire, they say: O would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger!

The Day their faces will be turned about in the Fire, they will say, "How we wish we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger."

وَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا إِنَّا أَطَعْنَا سَادَتَنَا وَكُبَرَاءَنَا فَأَضَلُّونَا السَّبِيلَا

Transliteration:

Waqaloo rabbana inna ataAAna sadatana wakubaraana faadalloona alssabeela

Word by Word:

And they will say, "Our Lord! Indeed, we [we] obeyed our chiefs and our great men, and they misled us (from) the Way.

Translations:

And they will say: O our Sustainer! Behold, we paid heed unto our leaders and our great men, and it is they who have led us astray from the right path!

And they would say: "Our Lord! We obeyed our chiefs and our great ones, and they misled us as to the (right) Path.

And they say: Our Lord! Lo! we obeyed our princes and great men, and they misled us from the Way.

And they say: Our Lord, we only obeyed our leaders and our great men, so they led us astray from the path.

And they will say, "Our Lord, indeed we obeyed our masters and our dignitaries, and they led us astray from the [right] way.

رَبَّنَا آتِهِمْ ضِعْفَيْنِ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ وَالْعَنْهُمْ لَعْنًا كَبِيرًا

Transliteration:

Rabbana atihim diAAfayni mina alAAathabi wailAAanhum laAAnan kabeeran

Word by Word:

Our Lord! Give them double [of] punishment and curse them (with) a curse great."

Translations:

O our Sustainer! Give them double suffering, and banish them utterly from Thy grace!"

"Our Lord! Give them double Penalty and curse them with a very great Curse!"

Our Lord! Oh, give them double torment and curse them with a mighty curse.

Our Lord, give them a double chastisement and curse them with a great curse.

Our Lord, give them double the punishment and curse them with a great curse."

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ آذَوْا مُوسَىٰ فَبَرَّأَهُ اللَّهُ مِمَّا قَالُوا وَكَانَ عِندَ اللَّهِ وَجِيهًا

Transliteration:

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo la takoonoo kaallatheena athaw moosa fabarraahu Allahu mimma qaloo wakana AAinda Allahi wajeehan

Word by Word:

O you who believe! (Do) not be like those who abused Musa then Allah cleared him of what they said. And he was near Allah honorable.

Translations:

O YOU who have attained to faith! Be not like those [children of Israel] who gave offence to Moses, and [remember that] God showed him to be innocent of whatever they alleged [against him or demanded of him]: for of great honour was he in the sight of God.

O ye who believe! Be ye not like those who vexed and insulted Moses, but God cleared him of the (calumnies) they had uttered: and he was honourable in God's sight.

O ye who believe! Be not as those who slandered Moses, but Allah proved his innocence of that which they alleged, and he was well esteemed in Allah's sight.

O you who believe, be not like those who maligned Moses, but Allah cleared him what they said. And he was worthy of regard with Allah.

O you who have believed, be not like those who abused Moses; then Allah cleared him of what they said. And he, in the sight of Allah , was distinguished.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَقُولُوا قَوْلًا سَدِيدًا

Transliteration:

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo ittaqoo Allaha waqooloo qawlan sadeedan

Word by Word:

O you who believe! Fear Allah and speak a word right.

Translations:

O you who have attained to faith! Remain conscious of God, and [always] speak with a will to bring out [only] what is just and true -

O ye who believe! Fear God, and (always) say a word directed to the Right:

O ye who believe! Guard your duty to Allah, and speak words straight to the point;

O you who believe, keep your duty to Allah and speak straight worlds:

O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice.

يُصْلِحْ لَكُمْ أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَمَن يُطِعِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا

Transliteration:

Yuslih lakum aAAmalakum wayaghfir lakum thunoobakum waman yutiAAi Allaha warasoolahu faqad faza fawzan AAatheeman

Word by Word:

He will amend for you your deeds and forgive for you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger certainly has attained an attainment great.

Translations:

[whereupon] He will cause your deeds to be virtuous, and will forgive you your sins. And [know that] whoever pays heed unto God and His Apostle has already attained to a mighty triumph.

That He may make your conduct whole and sound and forgive you your sins: He that obeys God and His Apostle, has already attained the highest achievement.

He will adjust your works for you and will forgive you your sins. Whosoever obeyeth Allah and His messenger, he verily hath gained a signal victory.

He will put your deeds into a right state for you, and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, he indeed achieves a mighty success.

He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
