29 - The Spider (Al-'Ankaboot)

Order of Revelation: 85

قَالَ رَبِّ انصُرْنِي عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْمُفْسِدِينَ

Transliteration:

Qala rabbi onsurnee AAala alqawmi almufsideena

Word by Word:

He said, "My Lord! Help me against the people the corrupters."

Translations:

[And] he prayed: O my Sustainer! Succour Thou me against these people who spread corruption!"

He said: "O my Lord! help Thou me against people who do mischief!"

He said: My Lord! Give me victory over folk who work corruption.

He said: My Lord, help me against the mischievous people.

He said, "My Lord, support me against the corrupting people."

وَلَمَّا جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ بِالْبُشْرَىٰ قَالُوا إِنَّا مُهْلِكُو أَهْلِ هَٰذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ إِنَّ أَهْلَهَا كَانُوا ظَالِمِينَ

Transliteration:

Walamma jaat rusuluna ibraheema bialbushra qaloo inna muhlikoo ahli hathihi alqaryati inna ahlaha kanoo thalimeena

Word by Word:

And when came Our (to) Ibrahim with the glad tidings they said, "Indeed, we (are) going to destroy (the) people (of) this town. Indeed, its people are wrongdoers."

Translations:

And so, when Our [heavenly] messengers came to Abraham with the glad tiding [of the birth of Isaac], they [also] said, Behold, we are about to destroy the people of that land, for its people are truly evildoers!"

When Our Messengers came to Abraham with the good news, they said: "We are indeed going to destroy the people of this township: for truly they are (addicted to) crime."

And when Our messengers brought Abraham the good news, they said: Lo! we are about to destroy the people of that township, for its people are wrong-doers.

And when Our messengers came to Abraham with good news, they said: We are going to destroy the people of this town, for its people are iniquitous.

And when Our messengers came to Abraham with the good tidings, they said, "Indeed, we will destroy the people of that Lot's city. Indeed, its people have been wrongdoers."

قَالَ إِنَّ فِيهَا لُوطًا قَالُوا نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن فِيهَا لَنُنَجِّيَنَّهُ وَأَهْلَهُ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ

Transliteration:

Qala inna feeha lootan qaloo nahnu aAAlamu biman feeha lanunajjiyannahu waahlahu illa imraatahu kanat mina alghabireena

Word by Word:

He said, "Indeed, in it (is) Lut." They said, "We know better who (is) in it. We will surely save him and his family, except his wife. She (is) of those who remain

Translations:

[And when Abraham] exclaimed, But Lot lives there!" - they answered: We know fully well who is there; most certainly we shall save him and his household - all but his wife: she will indeed be among those that stay behind."

He said: "But there is Lut there." They said: "Well do we know who is there : we will certainly save him and his following,- except his wife: she is of those who lag behind!"

He said: Lo! Lot is there. They said: We are best aware of who is there. We are to deliver him and his household, all save his wife, who is of those who stay behind.

He said: Surely in it is Lot. They said: We know well who is in it; we shall certainly deliver him and his followers, except his wife; she is of those who remain behind.

[Abraham] said, "Indeed, within it is Lot." They said, "We are more knowing of who is within it. We will surely save him and his family, except his wife. She is to be of those who remain behind."

وَلَمَّا أَن جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا لُوطًا سِيءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا وَقَالُوا لَا تَخَفْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّا مُنَجُّوكَ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَكَ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ

Transliteration:

Walamma an jaat rusuluna lootan see-a bihim wadaqa bihim tharAAan waqaloo la takhaf wala tahzan inna munajjooka waahlaka illa imraataka kanat mina alghabireena

Word by Word:

And when [that] came Our (to) Lut he was distressed for them, and felt straitened for them (and) uneasy. And they said, "(Do) not fear and (do) not grieve. Indeed, we (will) save you and your family, except your wife. She (is) of those who remain behind.

Translations:

And when Our messengers came unto Lot, he was sorely grieved on their account, seeing that it was beyond his power to shield them; but they said: Fear not, and grieve not! Behold, we shall save thee and thy household - all but thy wife: she will indeed be among those that stay behind.

And when Our Messengers came to Lut, he was grieved on their account, and felt himself powerless (to protect) them: but they said: "Fear thou not, nor grieve: we are (here) to save thee and thy following, except thy wife: she is of those who la g behind.

And when Our messengers came unto Lot, he was troubled upon their account, for he could not protect them; but they said: Fear not, nor grieve! Lo! we are to deliver thee and thy household, (all) save thy wife, who is of those who stay behind.

And when our messengers came to Lot, he was grieved on account of them, and he lacked strength to protect them. And they said: Fear not, nor grieve; surely we will deliver thee and thy followers, except thy wife -- she is of those who remain behind.

And when Our messengers came to Lot, he was distressed for them and felt for them great discomfort. They said, "Fear not, nor grieve. Indeed, we will save you and your family, except your wife; she is to be of those who remain behind.

إِنَّا مُنزِلُونَ عَلَىٰ أَهْلِ هَٰذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ رِجْزًا مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ بِمَا كَانُوا يَفْسُقُونَ

Transliteration:

Inna munziloona AAala ahli hathihi alqaryati rijzan mina alssama-i bima kanoo yafsuqoona

Word by Word:

Indeed, we (will) bring down on (the) people (of) this town a punishment from (the) sky, because they have been defiantly disobedient."

Translations:

Verily, we shall bring down upon the people of this land a horror from heaven in requital of all their iniquitous doings!"

"For we are going to bring down on the people of this township a Punishment from heaven, because they have been wickedly rebellious."

Lo! We are about to bring down upon the folk of this township a fury from the sky because they are evil-livers.

Surely We are going to bring down upon the people of this town a punishment from heaven, because they transgressed.

Indeed, we will bring down on the people of this city punishment from the sky because they have been defiantly disobedient."

وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَا مِنْهَا آيَةً بَيِّنَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ

Transliteration:

Walaqad tarakna minha ayatan bayyinatan liqawmin yaAAqiloona

Word by Word:

And verily, We have left about it a sign, (as) evidence for a people who use reason.

Translations:

And [so it happened; and] thereof, indeed, We have left a clear sign for people who use their reason.

And We have left thereof an evident Sign, for any people who (care to) understand.

And verily of that We have left a clear sign for people who have sense.

And certainly We have left a clear sign of it for a people who understand.

And We have certainly left of it a sign as clear evidence for a people who use reason.
