41 - Detailed (Fussilat)

Order of Revelation: 61

Transliteration:

Fa-in yasbiroo faalnnaru mathwan lahum wa-in yastaAAtiboo fama hum mina almuAAtabeena

Word by Word:

Then if they endure, the Fire (is) an abode for them; and if they ask for favor, then not they (will be) of those who receive favor.

Translations:

And then, [even] if they endure [their lot] in patience, the fire will still be their abode; and if they pray to be allowed to make amends, they will not be allowed to do so:

If, then, they have patience, the Fire will be a home for them! and if they beg to be received into favour, into favour will they not (then) be received.

And though they are resigned, yet the Fire is still their home; and if they ask for favour, yet they are not of those unto whom favour can be shown.

Then if they are patient, the Fire is their abode. And if they ask for goodwill, they are not of those who are granted goodwill.

So [even] if they are patient, the Fire is a residence for them; and if they ask to appease [ Allah ], they will not be of those who are allowed to appease.

Transliteration:

Waqayyadna lahum quranaa fazayyanoo lahum ma bayna aydeehim wama khalfahum wahaqqa AAalayhimu alqawlu fee omamin qad khalat min qablihim mina aljinni waal-insi innahum kanoo khasireena

Word by Word:

And We have destined for them companions (who) made fair-seeming to them, what (was) before them and what (was) behind them, and (is) justified against them the Word among nations (that have) passed away before them of the jinn and the men. Indeed, they were losers.

Translations:

for [when they became oblivious of Us,] We assigned to them [their own evil impulses as their] other selves, and these made appear goodly to them whatever lay open before them and whatever was beyond their ken. And so, the sentence [of doom] will have fallen due upon them together with the [other sinful] communities of invisible beings and humans that passed away before their time: verily, they [all] will indeed be lost!

And We have destined for them intimate companions (of like nature), who made alluring to them what was before them and behind them; and the sentence among the previous generations of Jinns and men, who have passed away, is proved against them; for they are utterly lost.

And We assigned them comrades (in the world), who made their present and their past fairseeming unto them. And the Word concerning nations of the jinn and humankind who passed away before them hath effect for them. Lo! they were ever losers.

And We have appointed for them comrades, so they make fair-seeming to them what is before them and what is behind them, and the word proved true against them among the nations of jinn and men that have passed away before them: they are surely losers.

And We appointed for them companions who made attractive to them what was before them and what was behind them [of sin], and the word has come into effect upon them among nations which had passed on before them of jinn and men. Indeed, they [all] were losers.

Transliteration:

Waqala allatheena kafaroo la tasmaAAoo lihatha alqur-ani wailghaw feehi laAAallakum taghliboona

Word by Word:

And said those who disbelieve, "(Do) not listen to this Quran, and make noise therein, so that you may overcome."

Translations:

NOW THOSE who are bent on denying the truth say [unto one another]: Do not listen to this Qur'an, but rather talk frivolously about it, so that you might gain the upper hand!"

The Unbelievers say: "Listen not to this Qur'an, but talk at random in the midst of its (reading), that ye may gain the upper hand!"

Those who disbelieve say: Heed not this Qur'an, and drown the hearing of it; haply ye may conquer.

And those who disbelieve say: Listen not to this Qur'an but make noise therein, perhaps you may overcome.

And those who disbelieve say, "Do not listen to this Qur'an and speak noisily during [the recitation of] it that perhaps you will overcome."

Transliteration:

Falanutheeqanna allatheena kafaroo AAathaban shadeedan walanajziyannahum aswaa allathee kanoo yaAAmaloona

Word by Word:

But surely We will cause to taste those who disbelieve a punishment severe, and surely We will recompense them (the) worst (of) what they used to do.

Translations:

But We shall most certainly give those who are [thus] bent on denying the truth a taste of suffering severe, and We shall most certainly requite them according to the worst of their deeds!

But We will certainly give the Unbelievers a taste of a severe Penalty, and We will requite them for the worst of their deeds.

But verily We shall cause those who disbelieve to taste an awful doom, and verily We shall requite them the worst of what they used to do.

So We shall certainly make those who disbelieve taste a severe chastisement, and We shall certainly requite them for the worst of what they did.

But We will surely cause those who disbelieve to taste a severe punishment, and We will surely recompense them for the worst of what they had been doing.

Transliteration:

Thalika jazao aAAda-i Allahi alnnaru lahum feeha daru alkhuldi jazaan bima kanoo bi-ayatina yajhadoona

Word by Word:

That (is the) recompense (of the) enemies (of) Allah - the Fire; for them therein (is the) home (of) the eternity (as) recompense for what they used to, of Our Verses, reject.

Translations:

That requital of God's enemies will be the fire [of the hereafter]: in it will they have an abode of immeasurable duration as an outcome of their having knowingly rejected Our messages.

Such is the requital of the enemies of God,- the Fire: therein will be for them the Eternal Home: a (fit) requital, for that they were wont to reject Our Sings.

That is the reward of Allah's enemies: the Fire. Therein is their immortal home, payment forasmuch as they denied Our revelations.

That is the reward of Allah's enemies -- the Fire. For them therein is the home to abide. A requital for their denying Our messages.

That is the recompense of the enemies of Allah - the Fire. For them therein is the home of eternity as recompense for what they, of Our verses, were rejecting.

Transliteration:

Waqala allatheena kafaroo rabbana arina allathayni adallana mina aljinni waal-insi najAAalhuma tahta aqdamina liyakoona mina al-asfaleena

Word by Word:

And (will) say those who disbelieve, "Our Lord! Show us those who misled us of the jinn and the men, (so) we may put them under our feet, that they be of the lowest."

Translations:

And they who [in their life on earth] were bent on denying the truth will [thereupon] exclaim: O our Sustainer! Show us those of the invisible beings and humans that have led us astray: we shall trample them underfoot, so that they shall be the lowest of all!"

And the Unbelievers will say: "Our Lord! Show us those, among Jinns and men, who misled us: We shall crush them beneath our feet, so that they become the vilest (before all)."

And those who disbelieve will say: Our Lord! Show us those who beguiled us of the jinn and humankind. We will place them underneath our feet that they may be among the nethermost.

And those who disbelieve will say: Our Lord, show us those who led us astray from among the jinn and the men that we may trample them under our feet, so that they may be of the lowest.

And those who disbelieved will [then] say, "Our Lord, show us those who misled us of the jinn and men [so] we may put them under our feet that they will be among the lowest."
