Order of Revelation: 72

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا كَلِمَةً طَيِّبَةً كَشَجَرَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ أَصْلُهَا ثَابِتٌ وَفَرْعُهَا فِي السَّمَاءِ

Transliteration:

Alam tara kayfa daraba Allahu mathalan kalimatan tayyibatan kashajaratin tayyibatin asluha thabitun wafarAAuha fee alssama/-i

Word by Word:

Do not you see how Allah sets forth the example, a word good (is) like a tree good, its root (is) firm and its branches (are) in the sky?

Translations:

ART THOU NOT aware how God sets forth the parable of a good word? [It is] like a good tree, firmly rooted, [reaching out] with its branches towards the sky,

Seest thou not how God sets forth a parable? - A goodly word like a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed, and its branches (reach) to the heavens,- of its Lord. So God sets forth parables for men, in order that they may receive admonition.

Seest thou not how Allah coineth a similitude: A goodly saying, as a goodly tree, its root set firm, its branches reaching into heaven,

Seest thou not how Allah sets forth a parable of a good word as a good tree, whose root is firm and whose branches are high,

Have you not considered how Allah presents an example, [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the sky?

تُؤْتِي أُكُلَهَا كُلَّ حِينٍ بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهَا وَيَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ الْأَمْثَالَ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ

Transliteration:

Tu/tee okulaha kulla heenin bi-ithni rabbiha wayadribu Allahu al-amthala lilnnasi laAAallahum yatathakkaroona

Word by Word:

Giving its fruit all time by the permission of its Lord. And Allah sets forth the examples for mankind so that they may remember.

Translations:

yielding its fruit at all times by its Sustainer's leave. And [thus it is that] God propounds parables unto men,' so that they might bethink themselves [of the truth].

It brings forth its fruit at all times, by the leave of its Lord. So God sets forth parables for men, in order that they may receive admonition.

Giving its fruit at every season by permission of its Lord? Allah coineth the similitudes for mankind in order that they may reflect.

Yielding its fruit in every season by the permission of its Lord? And Allah sets forth parables for men that they may be mindful.

It produces its fruit all the time, by permission of its Lord. And Allah presents examples for the people that perhaps they will be reminded.

وَمَثَلُ كَلِمَةٍ خَبِيثَةٍ كَشَجَرَةٍ خَبِيثَةٍ اجْتُثَّتْ مِن فَوْقِ الْأَرْضِ مَا لَهَا مِن قَرَارٍ

Transliteration:

Wamathalu kalimatin khabeethatin kashajaratin khabeethatin ijtuththat min fawqi al-ardi ma laha min qararin

Word by Word:

And (the) example (of) a word evil (is) like a tree evil, uprooted from the surface (of) the earth, not for it (is) any stability.

Translations:

And the parable of a corrupt word is that of a corrupt tree, torn up [from its roots] onto the face of the earth, wholly unable to endure.

And the parable of an evil Word is that of an evil tree: It is torn up by the root from the surface of the earth: it has no stability.

And the similitude of a bad saying is as a bad tree, uprooted from upon the earth, possessing no stability.

And the parable of an evil word is as an evil tree pulled up from the earth's surface; it has no stability.

And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, not having any stability.

يُثَبِّتُ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِالْقَوْلِ الثَّابِتِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ وَيُضِلُّ اللَّهُ الظَّالِمِينَ وَيَفْعَلُ اللَّهُ مَا يَشَاءُ

Transliteration:

Yuthabbitu Allahu allatheena amanoo bialqawli alththabiti fee alhayati alddunya wafee al-akhirati wayudillu Allahu alththalimeena wayafAAalu Allahu ma yasha/o

Word by Word:

Allah keeps firm those who believe with the firm word in the life (of) the world and in the Hereafter. And Allah lets go astray the wrongdoers. And Allah does what He wills.

Translations:

[Thus,] God grants firmness unto those who have attained to faith through the word that is unshakably true in the life of this world as well as in the life to come; but the wrongdoers He lets go astray: for God does whatever He wills.

God will establish in strength those who believe, with the word that stands firm, in this world and in the Hereafter; but God will leave, to stray, those who do wrong: God doeth what He willeth.

Allah confirmeth those who believe by a firm saying in the life of the world and in the Hereafter, and Allah sendeth wrong-doers astray. And Allah doeth what He will.

Allah confirms those who believe with the sure word in this world's life and in the Hereafter; and Allah leaves the wrongdoers in error; and Allah does what He pleases.

Allah keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word, in worldly life and in the Hereafter. And Allah sends astray the wrongdoers. And Allah does what He wills.

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ بَدَّلُوا نِعْمَتَ اللَّهِ كُفْرًا وَأَحَلُّوا قَوْمَهُمْ دَارَ الْبَوَارِ

Transliteration:

Alam tara ila allatheena baddaloo niAAmata Allahi kufran waahalloo qawmahum dara albawari

Word by Word:

Have not you seen [to] those who (have) changed (the) Favor (of) Allah (for) disbelief and they led their people (to the) house (of) destruction?

Translations:

ART THOU NOT aware of those who have preferred a denial of the truth to God's blessings, and [thereby] invited their people to alight in that abode of utter desolation

Hast thou not turned thy vision to those who have changed the favour of God. Into blasphemy and caused their people to descend to the House of Perdition?-

Hast thou not seen those who gave the grace of Allah in exchange for thanklessness and led their people down to the Abode of Loss,

Seest thou not those who change Allah's favour for disbelief and make their people to alight in the abode of perdition --

Have you not considered those who exchanged the favor of Allah for disbelief and settled their people [in] the home of ruin?

جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا وَبِئْسَ الْقَرَارُ

Transliteration:

Jahannama yaslawnaha wabi/sa alqararu

Word by Word:

Hell, (in) it they will burn and a wretched place to settle.

Translations:

- hell - which they [themselves] will ' have to endure? And how vile a state to settle in!

Into Hell? They will burn therein,- an evil place to stay in!

(Even to) hell? They are exposed thereto. A hapless end!

Hell. They will burn in it. And an evil place it is to settle in!

[It is] Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the settlement.
