45 - Kneeling (Al-Jatheyah)

Order of Revelation: 65

تِلْكَ آيَاتُ اللَّهِ نَتْلُوهَا عَلَيْكَ بِالْحَقِّ فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثٍ بَعْدَ اللَّهِ وَآيَاتِهِ يُؤْمِنُونَ

Transliteration:

Tilka ayatu Allahi natlooha AAalayka bialhaqqi fabi-ayyi hadeethin baAAda Allahi waayatihi yu/minoona

Word by Word:

These (are the) Verses, (of) Allah We recite them to you in truth. Then in what statement after Allah and His Verses will they believe?

Translations:

These messages of God do We convey unto thee, setting forth the truth. In what other tiding, if not in God's messages, will they, then, believe?

Such are the Signs of God, which We rehearse to thee in Truth; then in what exposition will they believe after (rejecting) God and His Signs?

These are the portents of Allah which We recite unto thee (Muhammad) with truth. Then in what fact, after Allah and His portents, will they believe?

These are the messages of Allah, which We recite to thee with truth. In what announcement will they then believe after Allah and His signs?

These are the verses of Allah which We recite to you in truth. Then in what statement after Allah and His verses will they believe?

وَيْلٌ لِّكُلِّ أَفَّاكٍ أَثِيمٍ

Transliteration:

Waylun likulli affakin atheemin

Word by Word:

Woe to every liar sinful

Translations:

Woe unto every sinful self-deceiver

Woe to each sinful dealer in Falsehoods:

Woe unto each sinful liar,

Woe to every sinful liar!

Woe to every sinful liar

يَسْمَعُ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ يُصِرُّ مُسْتَكْبِرًا كَأَن لَّمْ يَسْمَعْهَا فَبَشِّرْهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

Transliteration:

YasmaAAu ayati Allahi tutla AAalayhi thumma yusirru mustakbiran kaan lam yasmaAAha fabashshirhu biAAathabin aleemin

Word by Word:

Who hears (the) Verses (of) Allah recited to him, then persists arrogantly as if not he heard them. So give him tidings (of) a punishment painful.

Translations:

who hears God's messages when they are conveyed to him, and yet, as though he had not heard them, persists in his haughty disdain! Hence, announce unto him grievous suffering

He hears the Signs of God rehearsed to him, yet is obstinate and lofty, as if he had not heard them: then announce to him a Penalty Grievous!

Who heareth the revelations of Allah recited unto him, and then continueth in pride as though he heard them not. Give him tidings of a painful doom.

Who hears the messages of Allah recited to him then persists in haughtiness, as though he had not heard them. So announce to him a painful chastisement.

Who hears the verses of Allah recited to him, then persists arrogantly as if he had not heard them. So give him tidings of a painful punishment.

وَإِذَا عَلِمَ مِنْ آيَاتِنَا شَيْئًا اتَّخَذَهَا هُزُوًا أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ

Transliteration:

Wa-itha AAalima min ayatina shay-an ittakhathaha huzuwan ola-ika lahum AAathabun muheenun

Word by Word:

And when he knows of Our Verses, anything, he takes them (in) ridicule. Those - for them (is) a punishment humiliating.

Translations:

for when he does become aware of any of Our messages, he makes them a target of his mockery! For all such there is shameful suffering in store.

And when he learns something of Our Signs, he takes them in jest: for such there will be a humiliating Penalty.

And when he knoweth aught of Our revelations he maketh it a jest. For such there is a shameful doom.

And when he comes to know of any of Our messages, he takes them for a jest. For such is an abasing chastisement.

And when he knows anything of Our verses, he takes them in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.

مِّن وَرَائِهِمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَلَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُم مَّا كَسَبُوا شَيْئًا وَلَا مَا اتَّخَذُوا مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ

Transliteration:

Min wara-ihim jahannamu wala yughnee AAanhum ma kasaboo shay-an wala ma ittakhathoo min dooni Allahi awliyaa walahum AAathabun AAatheemun

Word by Word:

Before them (is) Hell and not will avail them what they had earned anything, and not what they had taken besides Allah (as) protectors. And for them (is) a punishment great.

Translations:

Hell is ahead of them; and all that they may have gained [in this world] shall be of no avail whatever to them, and neither shall any of those things which, instead of God, they have come to regard as their protectors: for, awesome suffering awaits them.

In front of them is Hell: and of no profit to them is anything they may have earned, nor any protectors they may have taken to themselves besides God: for them is a tremendous Penalty.

Beyond them there is hell, and that which they have earned will naught avail them, nor those whom they have chosen for protecting friends beside Allah. Theirs will be an awful doom.

In front of them is hell, and that which they have earned will avail them naught, nor those whom they take for protectors besides Allah, and for them is a grievous chastisement.

Before them is Hell, and what they had earned will not avail them at all nor what they had taken besides Allah as allies. And they will have a great punishment.

هَٰذَا هُدًى وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مِّن رِّجْزٍ أَلِيمٌ

Transliteration:

Hatha hudan waallatheena kafaroo bi-ayati rabbihim lahum AAathabun min rijzin aleemin

Word by Word:

This (is) guidance. And those who disbelieve in (the) Verses (of) their Lord, for them (is) a punishment of filth, painful.

Translations:

[To pay heed to God's signs and messages:] this is [the meaning of] guidance; on the other hand, for those who are bent on denying the truth of their Sustainer's messages there is grievous suffering in store as an outcome of [their] vileness.

This is (true) Guidance and for those who reject the Signs of their Lord, is a grievous Penalty of abomination.

This is guidance. And those who disbelieve the revelations of their Lord, for them there is a painful doom of wrath.

This is guidance; and those who disbelieve in the messages of their Lord, for them is a painful chastisement of an evil (kind).

This [Qur'an] is guidance. And those who have disbelieved in the verses of their Lord will have a painful punishment of foul nature.
