32 - The Prostration (Al-Sajdah)

Order of Revelation: 75

ذَٰلِكَ عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ

Transliteration:

Thalika AAalimu alghaybi waalshshahadati alAAazeezu alrraheemu

Word by Word:

That (is the) Knower (of) the hidden and the witnessed, the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful,

Translations:

Such is He who knows all that is beyond the reach of a created being's perception, as well as all that can be witnessed by a creature's senses or mind: the Almighty, the Dispenser of Grace,

Such is He, the Knower of all things, hidden and open, the Exalted (in power), the Merciful;-

Such is the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible, the Mighty, the Merciful,

Such is the Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Mighty, the Merciful,

That is the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,

الَّذِي أَحْسَنَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ وَبَدَأَ خَلْقَ الْإِنسَانِ مِن طِينٍ

Transliteration:

Allathee ahsana kulla shay-in khalaqahu wabadaa khalqa al-insani min teenin

Word by Word:

The One Who made good every thing He created, and He began (the) creation (of) man from clay.

Translations:

who makes most excellent everything that He creates. Thus, He begins the creation of man out of clay;

He Who has made everything which He has created most good: He began the creation of man with (nothing more than) clay,

Who made all things good which He created, and He began the creation of man from clay;

Who made beautiful everything that He created, and He began the creation of man from dust.

Who perfected everything which He created and began the creation of man from clay.

ثُمَّ جَعَلَ نَسْلَهُ مِن سُلَالَةٍ مِّن مَّاءٍ مَّهِينٍ

Transliteration:

Thumma jaAAala naslahu min sulalatin min ma-in maheenin

Word by Word:

Then He made his progeny from an extract of water despised.

Translations:

then He causes him to be begotten out of the essence of a humble fluid;

And made his progeny from a quintessence of the nature of a fluid despised:

Then He made his seed from a draught of despised fluid;

Then He made his progeny of an extract, of worthless water.

Then He made his posterity out of the extract of a liquid disdained.

ثُمَّ سَوَّاهُ وَنَفَخَ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِهِ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْأَبْصَارَ وَالْأَفْئِدَةَ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ

Transliteration:

Thumma sawwahu wanafakha feehi min roohihi wajaAAala lakumu alssamAAa waal-absara waal-af-idata qaleelan ma tashkuroona

Word by Word:

Then He fashioned him and breathed into him from His spirit and made for you the hearing and the sight and feelings; little [what] thanks you give.

Translations:

and then He forms him in accordance with what he is meant to be, and breathes into him of His spirit: and [thus, O men,] He endows you with hearing, and sight, and feelings as well as minds: [yet] how seldom are you grateful!

But He fashioned him in due proportion, and breathed into him something of His spirit. And He gave you (the faculties of) hearing and sight and feeling (and understanding): little thanks do ye give!

Then He fashioned him and breathed into him of His Spirit; and appointed for you hearing and sight and hearts. Small thanks give ye!

Then He made him complete and breathed into him of His spirit, and gave you ears and eyes and hearts; little it is that you give thanks!

Then He proportioned him and breathed into him from His [created] soul and made for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful.

وَقَالُوا أَإِذَا ضَلَلْنَا فِي الْأَرْضِ أَإِنَّا لَفِي خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ بَلْ هُم بِلِقَاءِ رَبِّهِمْ كَافِرُونَ

Transliteration:

Waqaloo a-itha dalalna fee al-ardi a-inna lafee khalqin jadeedin bal hum biliqa-i rabbihim kafiroona

Word by Word:

And they say, "Is (it) when we are lost in the earth, will we certainly be in a creation new?" Nay, they in (the) meeting (of) their Lord (are) disbelievers.

Translations:

For, [many are] they [who] say, What! After we have been [dead and] lost in the earth, shall we indeed be [restored to life] in a new act of creation?" Nay, but [by saying this] they deny the truth that they are destined to meet their Sustainer!

And they say: "What! when we lie, hidden and lost, in the earth, shall we indeed be in a Creation renewed? Nay, they deny the Meeting with their Lord.

And they say: When we are lost in the earth, how can we then be re-created? Nay but they are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord.

And they say: When we are lost in the earth, shall we then be in a new creation? Nay, they are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord.

And they say, "When we are lost within the earth, will we indeed be [recreated] in a new creation?" Rather, they are, in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord, disbelievers.

قُلْ يَتَوَفَّاكُم مَّلَكُ الْمَوْتِ الَّذِي وُكِّلَ بِكُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمْ تُرْجَعُونَ

Transliteration:

Qul yatawaffakum malaku almawti allathee wukkila bikum thumma ila rabbikum turjaAAoona

Word by Word:

Say, "Will take your soul (the) Angel (of) the death the one who has been put in charge of you. Then to your Lord you will be returned."

Translations:

Say: [One day,] the angel of death who has been given charge of you will gather you, and then unto your Sustainer you will be brought back."

Say: "The Angel of Death, put in charge of you, will (duly) take your souls: then shall ye be brought back to your Lord."

Say: The angel of death, who hath charge concerning you, will gather you, and afterward unto your Lord ye will be returned.

Say: The angel of death, who is given charge of you, will cause you to die, then to your Lord you will be returned.

Say, "The angel of death will take you who has been entrusted with you. Then to your Lord you will be returned."
