48 - Victory (Al-Fatt-h)

Order of Revelation: 111

لَّقَدْ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذْ يُبَايِعُونَكَ تَحْتَ الشَّجَرَةِ فَعَلِمَ مَا فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ فَأَنزَلَ السَّكِينَةَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَثَابَهُمْ فَتْحًا قَرِيبًا

Transliteration:

Laqad radiya Allahu AAani almu/mineena ith yubayiAAoonaka tahta alshshajarati faAAalima ma fee quloobihim faanzala alsakeenata AAalayhim waathabahum fathan qareeban

Word by Word:

Certainly Allah was pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you under the tree, and He knew what (was) in their hearts, so He sent down the tranquility upon them and rewarded them (with) a victory near,

Translations:

INDEED, well-pleased was God with the believers when they pledged their allegiance unto thee [O Muhammad] under that tree, for He knew what was in their hearts; and so He bestowed inner peace upon them from on high, and rewarded them with [the glad tiding of] a victory soon to come

God's Good Pleasure was on the Believers when they swore Fealty to thee under the Tree: He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down Tranquillity to them; and He rewarded them with a speedy Victory;

Allah was well pleased with the believers when they swore allegiance unto thee beneath the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down peace of reassurance on them, and hath rewarded them with a near victory;

Allah indeed was well pleased with the believers, when they swore allegiance to thee under the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquillity on them and rewarded them with a near victory,

Certainly was Allah pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you, [O Muhammad], under the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquillity upon them and rewarded them with an imminent conquest

وَمَغَانِمَ كَثِيرَةً يَأْخُذُونَهَا وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا

Transliteration:

Wamaghanima katheeratan ya/khuthoonaha wakana Allahu AAazeezan hakeeman

Word by Word:

And spoils of war much that they will take; and is Allah All-Mighty, All-Wise.

Translations:

and [of] many war-gains which they would achieve: for God is indeed almighty, wise.

And many gains will they acquire (besides): and God is Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom.

And much booty that they will capture. Allah is ever Mighty, Wise.

And many gains which they will acquire. And Allah is ever Mighty, Wise.

And much war booty which they will take. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.

وَعَدَكُمُ اللَّهُ مَغَانِمَ كَثِيرَةً تَأْخُذُونَهَا فَعَجَّلَ لَكُمْ هَٰذِهِ وَكَفَّ أَيْدِيَ النَّاسِ عَنكُمْ وَلِتَكُونَ آيَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَيَهْدِيَكُمْ صِرَاطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا

Transliteration:

WaAAadakumu Allahu maghanima katheeratan ta/khuthoonaha faAAajjala lakum hathihi wakaffa aydiya alnnasi AAankum walitakoona ayatan lilmu/mineena wayahdiyakum siratan mustaqeeman

Word by Word:

Allah has promised you spoils of war much that you will take it, and He has hastened for you this and has withheld (the) hands (of) the people from you - that it may be a sign for the believers and He may guide you (to the) Path Straight.

Translations:

[O you who believe!] God has promised you many war-gains which you shall yet achieve; and He has vouchsafed you these [worldly gains] well in advance, and has stayed from you the hands of [hostile] people, so that this [your inner strength] may become a symbol to the believers [who will come after you ] , and that He may guide you all on a straight way.

God has promised you many gains that ye shall acquire, and He has given you these beforehand; and He has restrained the hands of men from you; that it may be a Sign for the Believers, and that He may guide you to a Straight Path;

Allah promiseth you much booty that ye will capture, and hath given you this in advance, and hath withheld men's hands from you, that it may be a token for the believers, and that He may guide you on a right path.

Allah promised you many gains which you will acquire, then He hastened this on for you, and held back the hands of men from you; and that it may be a sign for the believers and that He may guide you on a right path,

Allah has promised you much booty that you will take [in the future] and has hastened for you this [victory] and withheld the hands of people from you - that it may be a sign for the believers and [that] He may guide you to a straight path.

وَأُخْرَىٰ لَمْ تَقْدِرُوا عَلَيْهَا قَدْ أَحَاطَ اللَّهُ بِهَا وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرًا

Transliteration:

Waokhra lam taqdiroo AAalayha qad ahata Allahu biha wakana Allahu AAala kulli shay-in qadeeran

Word by Word:

And others, not you had power over them surely Allah encompassed them, and is Allah over all things All-Powerful.

Translations:

And there are yet other [gains] which are still beyond your grasp, [but] which God has already encompassed [for you]: for God has the power to will anything.

And other gains (there are), which are not within your power, but which God has compassed: and God has power over all things.

And other (gain), which ye have not been able to achieve, Allah will compass it, Allah is Able to do all things.

And others which you have not yet been able to achieve -- Allah has surely encompassed them. And Allah is ever Powerful over all things.

And [He promises] other [victories] that you were [so far] unable to [realize] which Allah has already encompassed. And ever is Allah , over all things, competent.

وَلَوْ قَاتَلَكُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوَلَّوُا الْأَدْبَارَ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُونَ وَلِيًّا وَلَا نَصِيرًا

Transliteration:

Walaw qatalakumu allatheena kafaroo lawallawoo al-adbara thumma la yajidoona waliyyan wala naseeran

Word by Word:

And if, fight you, those who disbelieve, surely they would turn the backs. Then not they would find any protector and not any helper.

Translations:

And [now,] if they who are bent on denying the truth should fight against you, they will indeed turn their backs [in flight], and will find none to protect them and none to bring them succour:

If the Unbelievers should fight you, they would certainly turn their backs; then would they find neither protector nor helper.

And if those who disbelieve join battle with you they will take to flight, and afterward they will find no protecting friend nor helper.

And if those who disbelieve fight with you, they will certainly turn (their) backs, then they will find no protector nor helper.

And if those [Makkans] who disbelieve had fought you, they would have turned their backs [in flight]. Then they would not find a protector or a helper.

سُنَّةَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلُ وَلَن تَجِدَ لِسُنَّةِ اللَّهِ تَبْدِيلًا

Transliteration:

Sunnata Allahi allatee qad khalat min qablu walan tajida lisunnati Allahi tabdeelan

Word by Word:

(The established) way (of) Allah which passed away before, and never you will find in (the) way of Allah any change.

Translations:

such being God's way which has ever obtained in the past - and never wilt thou find any change in God's way!

(Such has been) the practice (approved) of God already in the past: no change wilt thou find in the practice (approved) of God.

It is the law of Allah which hath taken course aforetime. Thou wilt not find for the law of Allah aught of power to change.

(Such has been) the course of Allah that has run before, and thou wilt not find a change in Allah's course.

[This is] the established way of Allah which has occurred before. And never will you find in the way of Allah any change.
